Thanks for the heads up, when I get home I’ll have to set the DVR to record it.

It’s always nice to be informed and up to date with this issue as it seems to rear its ugly head every so often.  What confuses me is the examples used to “prove” intelligent design.  Every time I’ve seen someone try and point to a banana and how it peels or asking about how could we just manage to have eyes that work so perfectly they always say it’s not coincidence and they’re right its not, it’s evolution over thousands of generations and a dash of luck.

Exactly why I don’t see a problem with people reconciling religion with science.  Not that I personally believe that there is a mystical sky daddy up there watching me and keeping track every time I have sex out of wedlock, but I do think that if you are going to believe that, it would be infinitely more “miraculous” that your sky daddy created all we see through the natural processes that science daily uncovers.

The idea that a supposedly all seeing, all knowing, all powerful god had to resort to such a limited and rather lackluster method of creating the universe is far less amazing or impressive than if he did it with a big bang that then spread out into the universe as we know it over the gulf of time.

Uh oh, I better stop, I don’t want anyone to start thinking I’m an apologist for the other side or something.  Quick!  Religion represents a real and present danger to society and with the advent of nuclear weapons to all life on the planet!

Anyway, I just finished watching this, and the part that pretty much summed up the whole argument for IDiots in my mind was what one of the ID supporting school board members said about the Judge who ruled that ID was unconstitutional.  He basically called the Judge a clown and that he didn’t know anything about Constitutional law and that he’d be better off in the circus (in case we didn’t get the clown reference the first time.  I’m paraphrasing by the way.) Of course, mister mouth wasn’t a Constitutional scholar or a Federal Judge, or even a lawyer or teacher himself, so he was definitely qualified to make a rule on the Judge’s credentials.

I will not attack your doctrines nor your creeds if they accord liberty to me. If they hold thought to be dangerous - if they aver that doubt is a crime, then I attack them one and all, because they enslave the minds of men.

Every time someone points to a banana and goes “It’s by design! It was made to fit the human hand!” I wonder if they look at gherkins and go “See, it’s exactly the right shape and size to fit up my ass! Praise the Lord!”

...or asking about how could we just manage to have eyes that work so perfectly…

Bingo!  If our eyes were “intelligently designed,” then said designer is an idiot. A one-armed chimp with a bad case of shingles could do better.

Case in point - part of the eye is backwards—rather, inside out—so the nerve bundle starts from inside the eye and has to exit through the blind spot

Imagine if a Magic Sky Daddy actually designed the eye; then s/h/it would have...maybe...put the nerves on the posterior side of the retina, so there wouldn’t be any such spot?

Also, you can tell that the MSD’s construction slipshod poor; if it is so “perfect” why is macular degeneration so prevalent?

There was a gentleman in the program who said something more or less along the same lines - he did say he was Religious, but to me, that’s a Religious individual who has certainly got his shit together.  Much more level headed than some of the people they interviewed who insist on intelligent design.

I don’t suppose Nova mentioned that Judge Jones had to be placed under guard after receiving death threats, did they?  For all the claptrap we hear about the evil atheist scientists that build bombs, try as I might, I can’t imagine the same thing happening if Jones had ruled in favor of creationism.

I’m not the least bit surprised that the pettifogging came from those without any legal training.  After all, if you can read one book in the Bible and call yourself qualified to debunk 150 years of aggregated biological science, what’s a little matter like matriculating with a college degree and then a law degree?

(And, no, I do not buy into the “Intelligent Design isn’t creationism” bull.  The so-called Discovery Institute has proved time and time again that it can’t firewall religion and science, much less religion and politics or politics and science, so I’ll be d--mned if I do the work they’re too undisciplined to do themselves.)

Gack.  I’m glad NOVA called these twits out because you can count on them to be “rebranding” themselves as “post-Darwinists” shortly and gearing up for another assault on science and education and democracy itself.  They’re being bankrolled by a Dominionist savings and loan heir.  The theocrats may be on the defensive, but there’s plenty of fight left in them.

They certainly did mention this.  They also showed how the some of the plaintiffs in the case (parent’s who wanted ID out of the curriculum) were receiving threatening letters throughout the trial.

Also, the trial brought to light the glaring truth of ID just being repackaged Creationism.  One part showed that the text book the IDer’s were pushing was simply re-edited to say “Intelligent Agent” in place of “Intelligent Creator” after a similar trial in California.  The plaintiffs even found a document where they had just replaced the “reation” in “Creationist” with “designer” or something similar.  The guy that was describing it made a joke about it being a transitional fossil since the text then read “cdesignerist” or something like that (I don’t remember the exact terms right this second).

Created by god to stub your toe on and tear up your shins, exactly the right size to wear as a hat on your head?

Never saw it, I think I get the picture, but feel free to elaborate.  Maybe we could make a Ray Comfort/Kurt Cameron Spoof Video.

Every day at 4pm, Hitler has to be at the throne of Satan, dressed as a French maid. He has to pick a pineapple from a cupboard- Satan always sends him back to get a bigger one- and the Adolf bends over…

Should be require forced watching of neo nazis- “Hey guys- watch your leader take it up the arse”
