And it’s not good.
Doc says my mother has Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) brought on by her years of smoking. There is no cure and it slowly gets worse over time. She quit smoking over a year ago, but the damage had already been done.
I don’t normally preach in the manner that I am about to, but I need to say it at least once: If you smoke, quit now. Whatever it takes, do it. If not for yourself then for those who love you.
And if you don’t, then don’t bitch later when it bites you in the ass. My mother isn’t blaming anyone for this development outside of herself and we’ve all known the dangers for long enough that no one else should be blaming anyone else either.

I am truly sorry to hear that Les. I hope your mom sticks it out for a good long time to come. Sometimes we just get lucky, despite what the doctors say.
I smoked for about seven years and I wonder, sometimes, whether I’m still carrying a debt that I haven’t even paid for yet.
After watching my mom spend a year doing chemo, I sure as hell hope I quit soon enough.
