the part that bothered me most was this:

While, I don’t have a problem with the commandments that support the “common sense” values like not killing, 4 of the 10 are God saying “I’m God. Kiss my ass.” These are in no way “moral ethics” to follow those. So while I don’t have a problem with reminding people that killing is a bad idea, why does it need to be the 10 commandments? Why not post the laws that our country has?

The real problem, I believe, is that the Mississippi government, like the US government, is pretty much useless and corrupt.  Instead of dealing with real issues like a lack of jobs, inferior education and failing infrastructure, they can parade out jackass feel-holy B.S. like this, then brae to their constituents that they have tried so hard to do what is right, but the evil Satanic liberals are doing their best to defile God’s America again.

And the contributions will flow, and the conservatives will be re-elected, and Thomas Jefferson will spin in his grave a little faster…

My state is rife with religious zealots. It’s embarassing. As an atheist, I am especially upset.

As I read this, I had a revelation. As a staunch separation-of-church-and-state believer, I have this to say:

When the Federal government can swing the national economy BACK the 700 billion dollars it’s down in the last 4-5 years, fixed social security in some way that doesn’t screw the majority, moved medical care to the point that it doesn’t go up by 10-20% a year, secured the quality of our educational system, secured our business infrastructure AND the white and blue collar jobs for our nations citizens and got us out of iraq in a way that doesn’t destablize the entire region...I will be willing allow bibles to be placed in every major civic gathering place.

Why? Because the only way I see this taking place with our so-called “conservative” government is through an undeniable act of God.

AMEN!

What’s going to happen? Are we setting ourselves up for another civil rights type political struggle with the regressive south playing the part of--well--the south and the rest of the country who believe in the seperation of powers playing sane people. I don’t know where this all is going but as long as ‘average’ Americans sit on their collective ignorant asses at election time we all can expect more of the same. I personally will do what I have always done which is to basically ignore these idiots machinations and PRAY that the American Taliban doesn’t show up at my house to shove some of that olde tyme religion down my throat!
