Microsoft Windows Vista?

Apparently Microsoft has gotten around to giving the next version of their OS a name. They’re going to call it, of all things, Microsoft Windows Vista.

Vista? What the hell was wrong with using the current codename of Longhorn? Longhorn sounds like a rough and tough OS that can take more than a bit of slapping around. Vista sounds like a pussy new-age OS that’ll complain a lot if you don’t treat it gently. And I thought it was weird getting used to asking folks, “Do you have XP installed?” No way in hell I’m going to ask, “Do you have Vista installed?” I’ll have to modify that question to, “Do you have Microsoft’s latest piece of crap installed?”

Found out about this via that wuss Solonor who squeals like a girl if you slap him.

Oh, sure you will.  We’ll all get used to it.

I can already hear the “Windows Fist-Ya” jokes being made.

This is what I think of when I hear a product name, “Vista”:

Hmm...I think you answered your own question… wink

Uber beat me to the comment.  Yeah, my guess is Longhorn is too tough a name for an OS with their reputation.  Second guess - Vista sounding Spanish friendly like Sepharo said, I say they’re focusing on Latin American expansion.

So instead of ruining a Stones song, are they gonna use the governator’s line of “Hasta la vista, baby”?

How about a little truth in advertising, calling it “Windows Gringo”?

With ‘Windows’ and ‘Vista’ being redundant, I can only assume that the branding has more to do with international markets than any specific strengths of the package.

Since I only hold about 2.5 M$ shares they didn’t invite me to the meeting.  I was leaning toward Microsoft CTD (Crash Test Dummy) but they said it sounded too much like a sexually transmitted disease instead of the electronic disease that it is.

Bingo.

Maybe you should all use linux or unix or bsd. Then you would not have to worry about microsoft.

I’ve said many times that if I weren’t the gamer that I am I’d probably be running either Linux or would own a Macintosh, but I’m a gamer and Windows is where the games are at.

Besides, it’s provided me with a means of earning a living… at least until recently.

It is really too bad that the grphics librarys have not been written for linux. Probably not enough of a market because linux is more difficult to set up. However linux for everything else after gaming and maybe movie editing is better than mac and windows. It runs smoother and is FAR less buggy/crashy. Not to mention faster. My linux box has a 2.8 Ghrz CPU and 512 MB of RAM. However my brothers windopws box with twice as much RAM and same CPU speed runs significantly slower. My guess on that though is the amount of crap on his computer from drive by downloads and such.

Also linux is a far more secure OS than windows. It is more difficult to get crappy stuff that infects windows(that is probably because the crap written for windows would have to be ported to linux and it can be gotten rid of much easier). Not to mention the linux swap space is much better than the windows one.

Sorry for ranting about linux but with all the pain I see stemming from microsoft and mac my only conclusion is that every one should take a few extra hours of reading to learn how to use linux. It would save so much time by making getting rid of crap easier. And I think the biggest thing about linux is it,s open source.

Sorry again for the rant.
