Regarding Hitler, it’s been said that it takes a certain amount of brains to be truly evil.

It reminds me a bit of a Stephen King short story (from “Nightmares and Dreamscapes") where a young genius attempts to eradicate all human evil by altering the chemical contents of the Earth’s potable water supply. His plan works, but there’s one hell of a catch: the reason that humanity has ceased to be self-interested and cruel is that (because of the chemical contents of the water) people have gradually become increasingly mentally retarded.

Moloch- the best rational explanation of white (read: European cultural) hegemony in the world today is not racial superiority, but geography and history.  If you’re open to reasoned argument, I recommend Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond.  Of course, since I’m at least 1/32 Native American, and Darwin knows what all else, you might not want to pay any attention to me.

Sadie- while it’s true that races are blurry at the edges, and if you go back far enough, we all have ancestors of many colors (not to mention fins, etc), there are genetic differences between races that are important for medicine- for instance, the high incidence of sickle-cell anemia among blacks.

Of course, this should obviously have no bearing on social behaviour.  Racism is poison.

It makes no sense to me from a scientific perspective, and the only thing I can relate it to is a kind of tribalism (see Les’ thread on that).
