Mel or Monty?

Oh goody! Looks like a classic Monty Python movie is due to be released in theaters soon: CNN.com - Python’s ‘Life of Brian’ to be re-issued.

“We decided this is an important time to re-release this film, to provide some counter-programming to ‘The Passion,’ ” Jaglom told Reuters. “I intend it, hopefully, to serve as an antidote to all the hysteria about Mel’s movie.”

He said marketing for the re-release would play off Gibson’s film by adapting such taglines as “Mel or Monty” and “The Passion or the Python”—“we want to give people a choice.”

The remaining Python members all agreed this would be a good time to bring it back and will help out in promoting the film. It’s certainly one of my favorite Python movies and I never got to see it on the big screen (I was all of 11 at the time) so I’m looking forward to it.

My vote for The Python.  He’s not the savior.  He’s a naughty, naughty boy.  Thankfully, somebody is still lookin’ on the bright side of life.

I think the stoning scene is the absolute height of comedy. The cast have enough talent to carry off a scene where they, as men, are pretending to be women, pretending to be men - and it still works.

That cast has enough talent to carry anything off.  And, in that movie, Graham Chapman has/had the best looking legs of any man I’ve ever seen.

Neil, you may be truly offended, but you know that Gibson “and his ilk” have every right to create parody like this.  We as a moral society must uphold his right to free expression.

I just wish it were GOOD parody.

Neil, all of us Brianists are outraged.  On a related note, last night’s new episode of South Park did an incredible job of satiring Mel Gibson as a shit-smearing, dress-wearing, gibbering loony.
