“A God who could make good children as easily a bad, yet preferred to make bad ones; who could have made every one of them happy, yet never made a single happy one; who made them prize their bitter life, yet stingily cut it short; who gave his angels eternal happiness unearned, yet required his other children to earn it; who gave his angels painless lives, yet cursed his other children with biting miseries and maladies of mind and body; who mouths justice, and invented hell—mouths mercy, and invented hell—mouths Golden Rules and forgiveness multiplied by seventy times seven, and invented hell; who mouths morals to other people, and has none himself; who frowns upon crimes, yet commits them all; who created man without invitation, then tries to shuffle the responsibility for man’s acts upon man, instead of honorably placing it where it belongs, upon himself; and finally, with altogether divine obtuseness, invites his poor abused slave to worship him!”

Aside from the clear flaws in xian thought it still begs the question why there are problems in the world, and why create anyway? why have prefrence for your mortals leading a good life? Why exist in the first place? (that goes for the universe too) strong anthropic principle?

I like the way Mr Clements expresses the obvious that most never question.

I’d really love to hear how xians defend their Invisible Sky Critter against these obvious truths.
But, seeing as most aren’t conversant with the concepts of Logic and Reason, I suppose the best we could expect is a buncha ad hominem quickly followed with irrelevant Goat Herders’ Guide to the Galaxy quotes expressing fuck all but superstitious, Horus and Bronze Age based, schmaltzy, Jesus-humping ‘proofs’ of the unconditional love of G*D … eg “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish.”

I’ve discovered that it all boils down to brain wiring: your brain is wired to worship magic or it isn’t, either it’s wired to utilize logic or it isn’t, either it’s analytical of myths or it isn’t.

LOL That is surely what you will see from them.  Even when Kirk Cameron said he could prove scientifically there is a God, he still ended up reverting to passages from the book.

This just always makes me laugh: Sorry Christains, the Jews Were Right!

Thanks Webs!  Rowan Atkinson is teh best!

One of my favorite words, one that everyone can use every day to advantage: theodicy, meaning “the problem of reconciling evil with a benevolent God”.
