Man uses binary code to communicate with crop circle making aliens.

As another helpful reminder of why it’s important to remember to take your daily medication, we here at SEB present to you the following news item:

NCBuy: Weird and Offbeat News Stories

Jon-Erik Beckjord has been experimenting with sending messages to E.T.s for the last 13 years, using all sorts of symbols and words in his attempts.

But now he thinks the secret language may be binary code.

Beckjord recently visited Wiltshire, England—a place known as Crop Circle Country—and spray painted a message on a 73-foot-long plastic sheet reading “What do you want from us?“ in a form of binary code and ASCII text.

Apparently, the E.T.s are big computer nerds because Beckjord believes his message got immediate attention. He says the next day a crop circle appeared a mile from his message site showing three birds, with circles trailing from their wingtips, which he interprets to mean, “Be free, like birds.“

What? They couldn’t figure out how to encode a cure for cancer or the common cold into a crop circle? What the hell good is talking to these aliens if all they’re going to do is ruin valuable wheat with pictures of birds that could be trailing droplets of shit from their wings for all we know?

Be free, like birds. All that advanced technology and time spent in hyper-drive just to reach Earth and leave wishy-washy new age-ish platitudes.

You ever notice that aliens, angels, and ghosts all seem to have the same message?  Be free, love one another, be good, eat your Wheaties, blah blah blah.

It makes me think that supernatural forces everywhere spend their lives watching Dr. Phil, and if that’s the case I’d prefer to be alone in the universe.

Jeez.  Clearly the “circles” represent plates, and the REAL message is “eat turkey.“  Now THAT’s good advice!

I suppose it’s also possible the aliens are just messing with our heads. I can just picture them in their space ship laughing their asses off, or whatever they have that come close to an ass, nudging each other and saying “Look! They’re trying binary code now!“

HI, DON’T BE THAT STUPID WHEN YOU THINK THERE’S NO ONE OUTSIDE OF YOUR LITTLE WORLD, WHO YOU THINK YOU ARE??
MANKIND IS ONLY A SMALL PIECE IN THIS UNIVERSE, WE NEED TO OPEN OUR EYES TO SEE THE REST OF THEM

Whoa.. .easy there elide, take your meds and relax.

I do not htink anyone here denies the posibility of life elsewhere in the universe, just that it is a fucking long trip to stop by and say ‘be free like the flipping birds’

If ET is gonna swing lightyears to stop in for dinner, his ass better have something more profound to say than “love your neighbor” or “Be free” or some other gobbelygook… now back to elide’s regularly scheduled break with reality

OK, you’re an alien who travelled all the way from Rylos to say, “Be free…“

(points assault rifle at ET) “All right, greenie!  Enough happy-happy bullshit!  Tell us how to make that whole fusion power thing work already!“

Elide, I’d be very surprised if it turned out that there wasn’t life of some form to be found on other planets. Given the size and age of the known universe, the mind-numbingly huge number of stars within it, and the fact that we’ve found life just about everywhere we’ve looked on Earth no matter how hostile the environment seemed to be, I’d say the odds are probably pretty good that there’s other life out there. I’d even go as far as to suggest that we’re probably not the only intelligent and self-aware form of life to have developed.

What I find less likely is the idea that these creatures have evolved with the intelligence and creativity that would be required to develop the technology necessary to travel the vast distances between stars within a reasonable time frame for the sole purpose of gouging out intergalactic graffiti in some poor farmer’s crop of wheat. I’d certainly think they could come up with a better message to impart on us than “be free, like birds” after traveling all that distance.

hi, thanks for your comments, but think about this:
we haven’t learn from our mistakes in all this time, if we don’t have an explanation for something,we just said that is fake, or crazy, or just imagination, we were raised in a society that do not believe in ghost or ufo or even god, and for us to see this signs make us feel scared in the inside, afraid in the “what if” is reaally happening, let’s open our minds and don’t be scared of what is TRUE

Here’s a suggestion for you, Elide: Try backing up your point of view with something other than baseless statements about how afraid we are of the truth.

Personally if it turned out that aliens really were showing up on the planet for no reason other than to ruin wheat crops and make warm fuzzy statements about birds I’d be hard pressed to find that anything to be all that frightened about. If anything, I’d find it pretty funny that they came all this way for such a pointless activity. However, I’ve yet to see anything all that compelling in the way of evidence to suggest that these stories are even remotely close to being true and so far you’ve not offered anything that would change that opinion.

(in my best NY accent) Oy!

if we don’t have an explanation for something,we just said that is fake, or crazy, or just imagination,

No, we properly say, lets reserve judgement till all the facts (or any facts) are in. I do not see anyone here saying extraterrestrial life does not exist. Just that it is unfathomible how a race of beings so advanced they can maneuver through interstellar space, get here unnoticed by all of the surveillance we have in this world, and leave just as unseen, would come lightyears just to draw pictures of flipping birds

we were raised in a society that do not believe in ghost or ufo or even god,

Unfortunately this is not at all true. We live in a society that has too much belief and not enough knowledge (gnosis). Faith is IMO the antithesis of Knowledge.

and for us to see this signs make us feel scared in the inside, afraid in the “what if? is reaally happening, let’s open our minds and don’t be scared of what is TRUE

Actually, this is just your ego talking. You think that anyone who disagrees with you, or does not 100% follow along in lockstep is afraid of your ideas?

That’s a load of fertalizer.

It is the skeptic who lives in the “what if” that you speak of. What if it is true, what if it is not ... skepticism.

So I ask you… what if it is true? What if some juvinille deliquents from Sirius have come all the way here to tag up some wheat farm? What are we to make of it?

Could not these entities, ET, Angels, gods, Faeries, gremlins, gnomes, what-have-you, find a better way to communicate wiht the world, say by actually showing themselves

Believing in other life in the universe is not contradictory to not believing they came here to write in wheat.  I honestly believe it would be statistically improbable we are alone in the Universe, that doesn’t mean I think they have come here (yet).

What I say to all extraordinary claims—show me the proofs smile

that’s not the point, when i said fear, is the fear to the unknow, everybody is scared about something that they don’t know, or they can’t explain, and of course how we can explain all this??
like millions of years ago, mankind   was afraid of the fire, or the first wheel, or even people with diferent skin color, isn’t that true? and about the fields, that is just one the millions of ways that THEY are using to comunnicate with humanity, we have a closed mind still, we are like childs for them, or that’s what they think, how we going to listen them, when we can listen each other?
is not an argument without a base, just think about it and you will see!!!

Take care of your generalizations, they speak volumes about your mindset, but they do not hold in the larger population. Not everybody is afraid of the unknown, personally, it is what makes me get up in the morning, knowing there is more to learn, more to experience, more to grok. If there was no “unknown” what the hell would be the point of getting outta bed in the morning?

like millions of years ago, mankind was afraid of the fire, or the first wheel, or even people with diferent skin color, isn’t that true?

I think that you are confusing primal fears (fire) with neophobias (wheel) and predjudices (color). Fear of fire is not a fear of the unknown, but the known ... the knowledge it will hurt like a sonofabitch if you get burned.

Neophobes have always existed. These people are afraid of new things ... Neophilles too have always existed or we would still be living in caves. Neophilles are the people who spur humanity on to new ideas, technologies, and art.

Predjudices may sorta fit your ideas, but probably some it is not fear of the unknown IMO but faulty programming in the tender years.

nd about the fields, that is just one the millions of ways that THEY are using to comunnicate with humanity, we have a closed mind still, we are like childs for them, or that’s what they think, how we going to listen them, when we can listen each other?

If you remove the word THEY and insert Angels, elfs, klingons, gnomes, lil’ greenies, or the backwards messages on Judas Priest albums and it all adds up to the same thing… nadda.

We are not ‘children’ (ok, some are) but trust me, if a highly intelligent entity wanted to communicate with us, s/he/it has more than enough options, no need to resort to tilling the wheat fields.

I’m not saying that it can’t be I am just saying you need to prove your assertion ... so treat me like a child and walk me through why this has to be what you think it is. Do it simply, and in such a way that is not open to interpretation.

If I am gonna fly 1/2 way across the universe to give a message, I better damn well know what I want to say, and how to say it smile

Sorry if it appears that I being rough on you, but it is not you that I am being rough on, but rather the fallacies in your arguments (as I see them).

raspberry

Again, I have no issue with the idea of nonhuman extraterestrial life in the universe, just that they are immature graffiti artists who work in wheat instead of paint.

John,

“Whoa.. .easy there elide, take your meds and relax.“

You made juice come out of my nose….

On a more serious note.

Elide,

I have to agree with Les and John’s assessment, it’s not that skeptics immediate dismiss all new claims or new perspectives to approaching something.  It’s just that skeptics look for the simplest explanation for phenomena.  Which isn’t a particularly close minded or fearful approach.  It’s not that skeptics are afraid of particular explanations.  It’s just that they’re doubtful that fanciful explanations are apt.  I mean if a design appeared in a field what would be the most straight forward explanation, that it’s a prank and humans did it.  To suggest that some extraterrestial species would take the effort to travel the great distances necessary to come here and knock down wheat involves more inferential jumps that require justification.  Skeptics just don’t think that the justification is there.
