Is that a drill bit in your eye or are you just happy to see me?

Sierra Sun - Man survives horrific construction accident

While using a drill above his head on Aug. 15, the six-foot ladder he was standing on started to wobble, Hunt’s nephew Ben Hunt said. “The ladder started to ‘walk’ on him,” Ben said. “He lost his balance and threw the drill down - which is normal for us (construction workers).”

Then, he fell off the ladder face-first and onto the drill, which went through his right eye and out his skull, just above his right ear. According to Ben, doctors told him the drill pushed his brain aside, rather than impaling it, which could have caused further - and most likely vastly more extensive - damage.

They include a very scary x-ray pic of Hunt with this huge drill bit through his head. Hunt lost his right eye in the accident, but other than some understandable pain he seems to be largely unaffected by the accident. One downer is the fact that he wasn’t insured to be doing the job he was doing at the time of the accident and thus is facing some mighty serious medical bills. Hunt’s son and friends are mounting a fund raising effort to help cover the costs though the news article doesn’t provide any info on how or where to donate if you’re so inclined.

Okay, ouch.
Ouchouchouch.
I just have to wonder, how the fuck did they remove it? Twist it out?
I’m thinking that because they’re putting titanium plates in his head, they just opened his skull and lifted it out.
Ouch.

I gotta say. It’s reading stories like these that make me very happy to be in the I.T industry.

It’s a real bummer, man.  He may have to use the same health-insurance plan that’s becoming increasingly popular in our deteriorating economy.  For those of you who have not already guessed, that health-insurance plan is bankruptcy.
