Man on set of Gibson’s “Passion” struck by lightning, twice.

Mel Gibson’s upcoming film The Passion of Christ is already stirring up controversy and inflaming tempers and now it appears to be attracting the wrath of God himself.

Seattle Post-Intelligencer: AP - Movies

NEW YORK—Don’t tell Jan Michelini that lightning doesn’t strike twice. Michelini, an assistant director on Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of Christ,” was nicknamed “Lightning Boy” after lightning struck his umbrella during filming on a hilltop in the town of Matera, Italy, reported VLife, a supplement to Variety publications, in its October issue.

He suffered light burns on the tips of his fingers.

A few months later, while the crew was on a remote location a few hours from Rome, a storm rolled in and Michelini, again carrying an umbrella, was standing beside star Jim Caviezel on top of a hill, the publication said.

“I’m about a hundred feet away from them,” producer Steve McEveety was quoted as saying, “when I glance over and see lightning coming out of Caviezel’s ears. Both Caviezel and Michelini got struck this time. The main bolt hit Caviezel and one of its forks hit Michelini’s umbrella.”

Luckily, they weren’t hurt.

There are several ways we can interpret this. God is pissed, but is also a big fan of Mel Gibson so instead of frying the actor/director himself he decides to singe the hairs of one of his crew members to see if the message gets across. Or, God is pissed and has lousy aim. Or, God is pissed and can’t tell the difference between Mel Gibson, Jan Michelini and Jim Caviezel. Or, God isn’t pissed but enjoys fucking with people’s heads by pretending he is pissed. Or God doesn’t exist and this is just a lesson on why it’s a bad idea to stand around with an umbrella on a hilltop in the rain.

Take your pick. I find them all equally amusing myself.

les, Perhaps I read an idiot book or maybe I just read about a different Big Bang theory. Either way, thanks for taking me seriously.

The version that I studied, theorized that an enormous mass of gas started the Big Bang.
At any rate, I believe that all variations of the Big Bang are nothing more than re-organization theories. Matter and gas just got changed and switched around…restructured, if you will.

Basically what I hear is; “this form of matter and gas came from this other form of matter and gas”. With the exception of Spontaneous Generation, I’ve never heard a “something from nothing” theory.

Without some form of the latter, matter and gas have always existed…unless there is a divine force, I can’t wrap my mind around the concept of eternity. I’ll give Stephen Hawking a try though.

In the end, people believe what they want to believe.

Some people on here are more arrogant than others but in the end, nothing will be accomplished.

You’re all trying to discredit one another’s religious beliefs. Just let it be.

Les, you don’t have to put yourself on a pedestal and try to find ways to make others look stupid (which, undoubtedly you will do the same to me). You could easily say “whatever, man...think what you wanna think.” There’s no REAL reason to try and discredit someone else other than to make yourself feel good.

It may be a natural cycle here at SEB, but it seems they are suddenly coming in droves.

Did SEB get posted on some anti-atheist, anti-liberal, be the soldier website?

Maybe they are the “bushlettes” maryh talks about?

Covie,,,If the “they” you are talking about are Christians on posting on this site, we are not at all “bushlettes”.  It seems that bush may believe that all faiths lead to the same place, and based on biblical christianity he would not be correct.  he also does a few others things that do not make him the representative of christians today or us his followers....

as for the SEB conspiriacy.  i ran across this site because i was searching for false prophecies of kenneth copeland and found SEB by accident.  Les, had made an entry about a halloween article that copeland had in his magazine.  i left a post and got started from there.

is it a coincidence that suddenly “droves” of Christians are showing up on this site?? hmmmmm.

i dont think it would be cool though for a christian who found it like myself to go and tell his buddies and then you got a whole church posting here.  you’ll end up with a debate on when the rapture will occur or something.

I know what I posted, randall, good gawd. Usually when a movie lets out people come out in - heh - groups, and this is on a thread which initially discussed A MOVIE.

. . .poor delusional christians not just the average idiot ones that would post on this site

Those are your words not mine, and I’ll have to kindly ask you not to put your own bigotry off on me.

I do not mind being called or assumed an idiot

Notice it is YOU and not ME who lumped you into that category. You would do well to do so.

You would also do well to note that the only reason I responded to your comments is because I have no desire to contribute to any justification of the anti-christian accusations Les and this website often receive.

That’s one accusation I do get a lot. That I’m somehow anti-Christian. I wouldn’t mind if that particular religion were to suddenly fall off the face of the planet, but I’m not out to eliminate it as some would suggest.

Yes, I can sometimes be very mocking of the religion, but I only kid because I care.

Well, sorta anyway…

Ok, I know I shouldn’t ask, randall, if I’m going to observe proper decorum but I’ll ask anyway. Are you being bathed each and every day as a religious feet washing, anointing, “this is how I show my subservience to you” sort of thing, or are you unable to bathe yourself? If it’s the latter, I don’t mean to make fun. If it’s the former then I’m afraid I do.

Those of you that don’t believe there’s a God. I’m sorry that you are missing so much. You want to know why you don’t believe? Because God gave you that choice, He gave you the ability to have your own free-will. God made men and women because He wanted more than the angel’s He made that have Unconditional Love for Him. He wanted someone that could choose to love Him, not be made to love Him. How would you feel if your wife/husband, girlfriend/boyfriend, or anyone else you know loves you only loved you because they had to, because they had no other choice? Life sure would be boring if GOD hadn’t given us free-will. So whether you choose (by your own free-will) to believe or not believe doesn’t change the fact that He is knocking at your hearts door waiting no matter how long it takes for you to notice.

I’ve heard many people say: “Wouldn’t it be better to live for God and find out He doesn’t exist than to not live for Him and find out HELL is very really.”

Les United States Posted on 03/03/2004 at 12:32 PM

Those of you that don’t believe there’s a God. I’m sorry that you are missing so much.

I’m not missing a thing so don’t be sorry. In fact, I’d say I’ve gained quite a bit by letting go of a comfortable fantasy.

You want to know why you don’t believe? Because God gave you that choice, He gave you the ability to have your own free-will.

That’s not an explanation of why we don’t believe. It’s just an explanation of how it’s possible for us not to believe. Each of us has our own reasons for why we don’t believe just the same as most believers have different reasons for why they do. I know my reasons for not believing so I don’t need you to tell me what they are.

Why would a perfect being “want” for anything? That’s a human emotion that comes from lacking something that’s considered desirable or necessary. A perfect being is supposedly complete unto itself with no need for anything else. As such a truly perfect being wouldn’t want for anything, let alone for humans to love it, as it would be perfectly content with its own perfection.

Then when we consider that God (or the Judeo-Christian version at least) offers a choice that boils down to “love me or be cast into a lake of fire for all of eternity” one has to wonder how much of a choice you believers really have in the matter. How much love do you think I’d get from my wife if I demanded her unconditional adoration and worship otherwise I’ll leave her in a state of perpetual torture? That’s not unconditional love, that’s extortion.

Life sure would be boring if GOD hadn’t given us free-will. So whether you choose (by your own free-will) to believe or not believe doesn’t change the fact that He is knocking at your hearts door waiting no matter how long it takes for you to notice.

*Sniff!* That’s so touching! Someone had me a tissue.

I’ve heard many people say: “Wouldn’t it be better to live for God and find out He doesn’t exist than to not live for Him and find out HELL is very really.”

Hell is very really? That’s pretty amusing.

Anyway I’ve heard that argument as well. It’s called Pascal’s Wager after the man who first proposed it and it seems sensible enough on the surface. However, it fails to take into account that God would presumably be able to determine if someone were “living for God” because they truly believed in him and thought it was the right thing to do and someone who was “living for God” as a means of hedging his bets or covering his ass. You’d think the bet hedgers wouldn’t be treated any better than non-believers if God was actually concerned about being loved “unconditionally” by someone.

In fact it could be argued that a truly just God would value non-believers who followed that path because in their hearts they truly felt it was the right path to take over the bet hedgers who are merely covering their asses. At least the non-believers in that case were honestly doing what they felt was right. Of course all of that ignores the possibility that God might exist and doesn’t give a shit whether you believe and worship him or not.

Regardless, I’m not going to believe in something simply because of the possibility that if I don’t something bad might happen to me. Based on that logic I’d have to start believing in the boogey-man again too.

Les - don’t knock the boogey-man. He’s currently manufacturing gawd-damn nails! :omg:

Sherra - Let me offer them no tangible proof* of my existence, but let them burn in an eternal hell should they choose NOT to believe I truly exist. And he supposedly does this out of love.

Sounds a little sadistic to me. If some entity created us and this universe, I seriously doubt it thinks that much like a manipulative human so delighted by cruelty.

And if this being created humans to love it, this being would not be perfect, but a bit neurotic.:point: A more perfect being would have stopped at dogs if it were out for love.

*(the bible didn’t cut it and i imagine a god, such as you and others describe him, would have known that - after all, he supposedly created us and our ability to discern)

Well, Les & Covie… one day you will be face to face with your Creator and then we’ll see who’s right and who’s wrong. May God have mercy on your souls. And I am truly, truly sorry that you choose to not except the existence of a God who wants so much to bless you, if you only believed. You don’t know what you’re missing, but you will soon enough. Just wait, one day you will be forced to your knees and made to call Him “King of kings” and “Lord of lords!” And you will remember all the times He sent someone into your life to try to help you believe, but it will be too late then. Mark my words…

Man, this is getting monotonous…

Well, Les & Covie… one day you will be face to face with your Creator and then we’ll see who’s right and who’s wrong. May God have mercy on your souls. Mark my words…

Yeah, we know. We’ve been told this over and over again by many other people who, like you, believe they have sole knowledge of “the ultimate truth.” If there were a God and he was truly merciful then he’d spare us from hearing the same tired speech time and again from the holier-than-thou types such as yourself.

Yes, we know that someday we’ll know the truth. Yes, we know that someday we’ll be forced to bend down on our knees (by a God who supposedly doesn’t want to force anyone to do anything they don’t want to do) and admit that God is such a great guy that he has to force people to tell him what a great guy he is. We know all about how we supposedly don’t know what we’re missing out on. We also know all about how sorry you are that we don’t believe.

We know all of that already. So will you please just shut up now?

Brock,,,

first of all what sherra is talking about is not religion, its relatioship.  i know you have heard all that before so i wont go into it.

your statement is true.  “we’ve grown out of something being useful. Unlike you, some of us realize religion is a ride that can no longer carry us.”

you seem to be suggesting that she should grow up and wise up to this religious stuff that is not real.  can i give you a few words from Jesus The Christ Himself on this point.

Matthew 18:3
and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:4
Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Mark 10:15
Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

Sherra, i hope you never “wise-up”, or “grow-up”, if that means you have to walk away from a relationship with Christ.

Brock United States Posted on 03/04/2004 at 06:34 PM

BUT, randall, 1 Corinthians 13:11-12 says:

11 When I was a child, I spake as a child,
I understood as a child, I thought as
a child: but when I became a man, I
put away childish things.
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly;
but then face to face: now I know
in part; but then shall I know even as
also I am known.

Take that you Bile Bull thumper, you.
