Man, those librarians sure are crotchety.

CNN.com - Librarians oppose shushing action figure - Sep. 8, 2003

SEATTLE, Washington (AP)—A new action figure of a frumpy-looking librarian who moves her index finger to her lips with “amazing push-button shushing action!” is prompting librarians around the world to raise their voices in protest.

“The shushing thing just put me right over the edge,” said Diane DuBois, library director of Caribou Public Library in Caribou, Maine. “We’re so not like that anymore. It’s so stereotypical I could scream.”

Yes, it is a stereotypical representation of a librarian, but I’d hazard to guess that’s actually part of its appeal. If the worst thing about the doll that these folks can get upset about is the fact that it has “shushing” action then they don’t have a lot to be upset about if you ask me.

Could be worse. Atheists are often stereotyped as immoral, baby eating, sin waddling, poor excuses for human refuse and no one’s making action figures out of us.

Speaking of action figures, I found this dreadful thing. I wonder if they are planning on making any of the ‘Axis of Evil(TM) dolls to complement the series?

I’m gonna order one of those dolls!  I wish it was life-sized though…I’d love to smack it around a bit:

“Hey George “Dubya”, where’s my job buddy? (SMACK) Why’s my retirement fund only worth 40% of what it was 2 years ago? (SMACK) What’s up with that pal? (SMACK) What’s that ya say…it’s not your fault? (SMACK)
