Laura Mallory uses school shootings to push Harry Potter ban, Bibles in school.

The image to the right is a picture of a true asshat by the name of Laura Mallory. She’s attempting for the second time to get the Georgia Board of Education to ban Harry Potter books because she feels they are evil and indoctrinate children into Wicca. She’s trying to use the recent school shootings as justification for the ban:

Laura Mallory, a mother of four from the Atlanta suburb of Loganville, told a Georgia Board of Education officer that the books by British author J.K. Rowling, sought to indoctrinate children as Wiccans, or practitioners of religious witchcraft.

Referring to the recent rash of deadly assaults at schools, Mallory said books that promote evil - as she claims the Potter ones do - help foster the kind of culture where school shootings happen.

That would not happen if students instead read the Bible, Mallory said.

She added that the books were harmful to children who are unable to differentiate between reality and fantasy.

I don’t know which Bible she’s been reading, but the ones I’ve read are way worse on the sex and violence than any of the Potter books so far. Of course she stupidly reveals her true goals by claiming kids are “unable to differentiate between reality and fantasy” hence she wants to get her preferred fantasy in front of them if at all possible.

The children, she said, try to imitate Harry Potter and cast spells on classmates.

“They’re not educationally suitable and have been shown to be harmful to some kids,” Mallory said.

She argued that teachers do not assign other religious books like the Bible as student reading.

It would be amusing listening to idiots like Mallory blow hot air if it weren’t for the fact that so many other idiots take them seriously. She wouldn’t know a Wiccan religious book if it bit her on the ass.

Maybe she is reading all the Harry Potter ‘Slash’ stories on the Internet and thinking that they are J.K. Rowling’s work. After all the anti-potter folks clung to the article in ‘The Onion’ about Harry Potter being satanic long after everybody started laughing at them for being dumbasses for believing ‘The Onion’.

I imagine JKR is rubbing her hands together and saying; “Yesssss… Ban the booooook.... You know you want to!”

Because you know, nothing helps book sales like a good bannin’

No she has a point about stopping children copying HP- 2 dimensional characters, thin plots, no sub-text, no challenge to the thought processes. Unless of course she means somewhere other than creative writing/Eng Lit…

The bible should be used in schools.  You can have
Comparative history- Mein Kampf and Gods orders on the genocide of the Midonites,
Social science- the suffragettes and the treatment of women in the bible (esp good ol’ Leviticus),
maths and the size of the Ark,
Law- what Jesus said about not changing ‘one tittle’ and what Peter actually left us with,
Biology- the effects of starvation on desert hermits after 40 days,
Journalistic practice- how we have different reports of the trial of Jesus, all written by people not there.
Physics and cosmology with reference to Genesis.

*Sigh*...another brain-dead fundamentalist who conflates Wicca with Satanism. Not that the fundies come close to understanding even Satanism.

I lived up in them thar hills in East Tennessee for 7 years, and I can assure you they’re not even very close to understanding Christianity.

LH, you may be onto something.  But somehow I bet the fundies still wouldn’t be happy about your program for getting the Bible into school classes!  cool smirk

The antonym (I can’t think of the right word – it probably starts with ap smile ) of the bible would be a book where no one is killed willy nilly like in schoolyard massacres.
I think Harry Potter books fit in there quite nicely.

I’ve discovered that it all boils down to brain wiring: your brain is wired to worship magic or it isn’t, either it’s wired to utilize logic or it isn’t, either it’s analytical of myths or it isn’t.

Well, I for one feel that the public school system needs to do a better job teaching my children the basics ie...algebra, geometry, world history, political science etc...etc…

If you want your children to read the bible, send them to church.

Hahahaha… yes!  Because I’d rather them repeat the acts of violence in the Bible instead!  Much more entertaining than just shooting someone!

Since when the hell do students at Hogwatts go around on shooting sprees?  You think even Severus Snape would cloak a pistol in his robes?

And ironically, I may have taken an interest in Wiccan Religion.  So what if they’re different from Christianity.  At least they’re not Satanic.  Wiccans are often mistaken for Witches.

Harry Potter… I never read the book or saw the movie, But more and more, I am relating the words Fundamentalist Christian to Sex Addict, or victim of a sex addict. I wonder if they really believe what they are saying or do they just hide behind a wall called Religion. They never talk about sex it seems until they are arrested. If someone could tell me, Is the Harry Potter stuff have anything about sex.

I don’t doubt there was a man named Jesus. He was probably a revolutionary type person against the Romans. Kinda Like John Lennon. And this Hell Business they keep talking about. Are you Shitting me....They sound like the Muslims, and I can’t decide which is worse.

Is there sex in the Harry Potter books?  Is the Bear Catholic?  What about that smoldering kiss he gave Cho Chang? Only to turn around and kiss his best friend’s little sister?  Oh my.  I can see why these books should be banned.  And burned too.

Indeed Zilch. Burning is definitely NOT optional, if you want to destroy the evil spirits.

Censorship is an outrage.  If you want kids to understand the difference between reality and fantasy.... Try teaching them about it.

The bible is used as justification for more wars, genocide, serial killings, mass murder, bigotry, theft, rape, slavery, and various forms of torture than any other single publication in the history of man.

How come it never gets banned?

$50 SAYS SHE HAS NEVER READ _ANY_ OF THE BOOKS

Reminds me of all the other “cultural protests” back in the day.

Remember the noise and conflaguration the fundies raised when The Last Temptation of Christ was released? It was obvious then (and even moreso now, in light of the fundies’ mental ejaculation over “The Passion of Christ") that none of them had even seen the movie, just “heard” there was some bad stuff in it.

Cindi: I just wish these people would quit breeding if they think the world is such an evil place.

I find it odd how many of these people pop out dozens of children when they believe the world is on the verge of ending. So much for “thinking of the children,” eh?

All of this rampant stupidty and ignorance are starting to wear me down.

That’s their goal.
Generally speaking, the Christ-Nazis are a lot more motivated, better organized, and better communicators than those they oppose.

They depend upon your exasperation—just like their ideological predecessors in the Graveyard-of-Europe.

Exactly, Sadie!  Is it a “more souls for heaven” thing, or “more bodies for the fatherland?”

Oooooooooooohhhhh, I’m just tired of it.  Tired tired tired.  Disgusted.  When did stupid to be so popular?

Rob:  Are these “Christ-Nazis” (DAMN!  I love that term) really that much more articulate or are the people they’re speaking to that much dumber?

I do agree, however, that they are better organized.
