You know what the problem is… they’re just not praying hard enough.

Invoking images of mushroom clouds on your horizon is a powerful way to inspire fear and ensure support for your undertakings but when fantastic images of death and mayhem become manifest, you need to be able to deliver on your promises to protect.

We found the weak link in the chain and it just happens to be where those who preyed on our insecurities reside. How much do you want to bet they move the link further down the chain and come out looking like heroes?

According to the Drudge Report:

A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll of 609 adults taken September 5-6 shows:

...13% said George W. Bush is “most responsible for the problems in New Orleans after the hurricane”; 18% said “federal agencies”; 25% said “state and local officials”; 38% said “no one is to blame”; 6% had no opinion.—29% said that “top officials in the federal agencies responsible for handling emergencies should be fired”; 63% said they should not; 8% had no opinion.

At this point, only 13% of those polled blame Bush. Controlling the information released will surely bring that number down to irrelevant.

Wow.  That is some extra-serious, industrial-grade ass whompin’ there.

The BushAdmin doesn’t need to invoke images of mushroom clouds on the horizon; Politicians, scientists, and intelligence analysts the world over, from all spectrums of ideology, pretty much agree that they are very much on America’s horizon.  The only people not seeing this are the consumer-addicts within America.

As i’ve said before, consider Katrina a dry run for the near impending 9/11v2.

As much of a schmuck as Bush is, the local government are the first responsible parties.  That is written law.  According to a local talk station the other day, it was noted that Mayor Nagen was first and foremost responsible for declaring an evacuation.  On top of that, he also has authorization to use any public resources as he sees fit to evacuate people.  A prior study (sorry I don’t have references) stated that a minimum of 100,000 people would not be able to evacuate themselves due to lack of funds, cars or inability to take care of themselves.  Mayor Nagen’s call for evacuation stated that people were to evacuate by their own means.  Now, hundreds of school buses sit in a flooded lot.

FEMA and the national guard cannot enter a state until the state government approves or asks for them.  They delayed.  These delays cost lives.  Once they did get in there, they were ineffective and disorganized, but I suppose we’ll learn more about this as we go. 

I think people are seeing how useless our politicians truly are (Republican or Democrat).

While most of your post seems to be on target there are some pesky details that need to clarified.  The true first parties responsible are the citizens themselves.  In our ever increasing dependence on government that seems to have been forgotten.

New Orleans had a sound evacuation plan in which the government would use public transportation and school buses to evacuate people.  Despite the recurring photos of busses under water this did happen.  I have dozens of NO buses driving around my neighborhood.

Mayor Nagin underestimated the power of Katrina and hesitated in ordering the mandatory evacuation.  Even after a personal call from NOAA he waited until the following morning to issue the directive.  He should be canned.

Nagin was in overhead once he delayed the order and Bush was caught with his pants around his ankles because his national strategy was even worse than Nagin’s.

As for the Pentagon card, what’s so special about *that*?  The Pentagon has *always* been a target, since the time it was built and for *years* prior to 1995 - in fact, the Oklahoma City bombing (the Murrah building) highlighted the fact that federal buildings were the targets of an Iranian fatwa that was already old news at the time. Again, our feckless writer foams on about the “accuracy” of this picture, when clearly the *center* of the Pentagon is depicted as being on fire - the actual damage done to the building was to the three outermost rings. So far, I’m *still* not seeing anything prophetic here.

The rest of the site was more of the usual tripe I’ve come to expect from conspiracy theorists - bible verses and quotes taken out of context, information scuplted and massaged to conform to their silly, simplistic world view, etc. The “Rewriting History” part is typical of the kind of shoe-horning these folks do to get their idiotic twaddle some attention - those quotes by Jesus had everything to do with warning his disciples in *his* time - not *ours*.  Taken out of context, it appears that Jesus is warning future generations - but he’s *not*, so there goes *that* theory.

Dear President Bush:

Please refer to my letter to you April 23, 2003 (attached). This letter informed you that I was the victim of surveillance on April 3, 2003. I also furnished you a copy of my intelligence report on terrorism that indicates the FBI had advance information about 9-11 and failed to take appropriate action. I am writing this letter because I learned on August 23, 2003 that I was the victim of a surreptitious entry into my apartment sometime between July 9, 2003, when I left Los Angeles, and August 23, 2003, when I returned.

I’m sure prior to public release of Operation Northwoods in 2001, anybody that would have suggested the U.S. government planned the following would have been labeled a conspiracy nut.

Start rumors about Cuba by using clandestine radios.
Stage mock attacks, sabotages and riots at Guantanamo Bay and blame it on Cuban forces
Sink an American ship at the Guantanamo Bay American military base - reminiscent of the USS Maine incident at Havana in 1898, which started the Spanish-American War - or destroy American aircraft and blame it on Cuban forces. (The document refers to unmanned drones, fake funerals etc.)

Destroy an unmanned drone masquerading as a commercial aircraft supposedly full of “college students off on a holiday”. This proposal was the one supported by the JCS.
Stage a “terror campaign”, including the “real or simulated” sinking of Cuban refugees:
“We could develop a Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami area, in other Florida cities and even in Washington. The terror campaign could be pointed at Cuban refugees seeking haven in the United States. We could sink a boatload of Cubans enroute [sic] to Florida (real or simulated). We could foster attempts on lives of Cuban refugees in the United States even to the extent of wounding in instances to be widely publicized.”

Thanks, deadscot.  It seems that no matter how many news sources one peruses, the whole story is never found.  You are exactly right about the people.  I was reading an interesting viewpoint this morning that talked about the incredible wellfare state that has been created in NO.  The results are what we saw on the news; thousands upon thousands of people that think that the government will look out for them and take care of their every need.  But when a disaster like Katrina comes along, that help isn’t there and they don’t know how to take care of themselves.

An interesting thing that may happen here is that as people are spread out across the nation and start picking up new lives, hopefully they will see different ways of living outside of NO, and become productive citizens.  One can hope!

As far as you not believing our government is capable of attacking us to create the atmosphere to go to war for oil and other reasons, that’s you. I would think the plans they had for Operation Northwoods would prove what they are capable of. I would also think Operation Mockingbird would be enough to convince people that what we hear on the news is controlled by the CIA.

This is an update on polling numbers. Best I can tell the CNN/USA Today Gallop Poll was the first one reported. A number of polls, taken at about the same time or slightly later, are somewhat more critical of Bush the administration. See a summary of polls at Yahoo News

No surprises with this Pew finding.

Previous Pew surveys have shown the Fox News audience to be highly supportive of the president. This remains the case today, with Fox viewers reacting far more favorably to the president’s handling of the disaster than those who cite other outlets as their major source of news on the hurricane.

In addition, a plurality of Fox News viewers (42%) say that people who took things from businesses and homes in New Orleans were mostly criminals taking advantage of the situation. The balance of opinion among those who rely on other outlets ­ CNN, network news, newspapers and the internet is that people who stole were mostly ordinary people trying to survive in an emergency.

Here is a key concept stated in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) National Response Plan. “Proactive notification and deployment of Federal resources in anticipation of or in response to catastrophic events in coordination and collaboration with State, local, and tribal governments and private entities when possible.” (Emphasis mine.) Including the table of contents, the word proactive appears 22 times. See page 7 for a list of thing that the Governor of a State, the President, and DHS can do under the Stafford Act.

Here in Texas they are hold several job fairs beginning today specifically tailored to the refugees.  No dress code and the like.  Some right-wing in-compassionate nut-jobs have already starting bitching about the impact this will have on regional businesses.

Not really - there’s those pesky FACTS that always seem to get in the way of any good conspiracy theory, though.

I lived for many years in Great Falls, VA - home to many folks who worked at the CIA, a short 15-20 minute drive down Georgetown Pike through the country hills (and Langley) and onto Rt. 123 . . . which of these, my former neighbors, were controlling the news?  Better yet, *how* do they control the news when there are literally *hundreds* of independently-owned news outlets?

Unhinged people exist on *both* sides of the aisle.  What makes you think I would lend more credence to anything a Republican says over that which a Democrat says?
