Just over 10 hours before the start of Blogathon 2006.

Won’t be long now and the 2006 Blogathon will be underway and your’s truly will be doing his right best to write something coherent and interesting for the proceeding 24 hours. So far we’ve gotten 14 pledges totaling out to $354.00 for the folks at Americans United for the Separation of Church and State and I couldn’t be happier. There’s still time to sign up and sponsor SEB if you’ve been sitting on the fence thinking about it. You can even make your sponsorship anonymous if you want to.

Folks have been asking me over the past couple of days what I’ve been doing to get ready for the Blogathon. They ask if I am making notes or gathering materials to set aside to be sure I have enough stuff to write about and I have to reply with a hearty HA! I’m totally flying by the seat of my pants, baby! I’m blogging without a net! I’m flirting with writer’s block! I’m tempting fate with a total lack of organization and preparation that takes years of practice to perfect! THIS is blogging on the cutting edge! This is XTREME BLOGGING!

OK, so it’s not quite that exciting, but my preparations have been minimal. Mostly I’ve been kicking around a few ideas in my head such as a few movie reviews I’ve been meaning to write, but beyond just thinking about it and going through the trouble to acquire a webcam (which I still haven’t figured out how to set up so it’ll send images to the site continuously) I’ve not done a whole lot to get ready. I played with the idea of setting up a SHOUTCast server so I could broadcast my voice during the ‘thon and then decided it was too much trouble for a one time thing. I may use the webcam to do a few video blog (vlog) entries just for the hell of it.

The one thing I am going to do in preparation is go to bed at a reasonable time, like more or less once I’m done with this entry. The fun starts tomorrow morning at 6AM PT which means I don’t have to start until 9AM ET and that’s a definite improvement over the first time I did a Blogathon and had to get up at 5:45 in the morning. Of course that also means I have to stay awake until 9AM on Sunday. Hooboy! Be sure to check in regularly to see if I’ve lost it yet and started screaming gibberish into the webcam.

Best of luck, sir.  I’ll be watching, in-between my own posts.

I’ll be watching also! I may have made the ultimate mistake and called him “My Good Buddy” over at skenmy.com but it’s a risk I’m willing to take in the name of charity!
