Judge them by their actions: CO state Rep. kicks news photograher.

Colorado Republican Douglas Bruce is a friggin’ dick. First he gets all pissy about the swearing in ceremony he’s supposed to have to fill a vacant seat in the Colorado House of Representatives and then, during the actual ceremony, he hauls off and kicks a news photographer taking pics of the event:

Carrying a family Bible, Bruce went to the House floor Monday morning as a guest of Rep. Kent Lambert, a fellow Colorado Springs Republican.

When Rocky Mountain News photographer Javier Manzano took his photo during the traditional morning prayer, Bruce, who was standing, brought the sole of his shoe down hard on the photographer’s bent knee. A CBS4 News videographer saw Bruce make a kicking motion, but didn’t see the actual contact.

“Don’t do that again,” Bruce told Manzano.

Naturally being such an upstanding Christian sort who follows Jesus’ teaching to “turn the other cheek” Rep. Bruce later apologized for being a dick to the news photographer personally, right?

Ha ha! Don’t be so clueless.

Later, Bruce refused to apologize.

“I think that’s the most offensive thing I’ve seen a photographer do in 21 years,” he said. “If people are going to cause a disruption during a public prayer, they should be called for it. He owes an apology to the House and the public.”

“I’m glad that he maybe, finally, I hoped learned a lesson,” Bruce continued. “That he should not disrupt a public prayer of the House.”

I’m sure Jesus would consider such public displays of piety just as important and would have soundly thrashed that newsman for having the audacity of taking pictures during such an auspicious event. ‘Cause Jesus was all about laying the smack down ya know!

Don’t be a dick, Bruce!

I like that he carried a family Bible with him.  If it’s like the one my Grandmother used to have, the thing was frickin’ huge.  Way to go Bruce, why not wrap yourself in an American Flag while your at it.  People that go out of their way to show their piety to others are just crap.  Somebody should have kicked this dick in the face just for lugging along a huge Bible.

Actions can be a manifestation of someone’s mind, intentions can vary but are more clear when the person is emotional. In this case I think he’s more likely to blame others for his feelings than himself, so that he doesn’t have to make a personal change

But then, we do have a right to privacy unless one of our choices involves sacrificing it as part of the deal (i.e. getting yourself into the public spotlight)

I say charge him and haul him in front of judge. That’s what would have happened if someone kicked HIM.

It’s getting entertaining as we speak.

The House leader has put him under investigation over the Kicking.  and then he managed to make a “joke” prior to the kicking.

Bruce, R-Colorado Springs, replied with an off-colored joke, “You look pretty healthy ... I didn’t know you had AIDS.”

Indeed, we must accept the possible consequences of our actions, and the same rules apply to him. He is one person like everyone else, and just because he feels only what he feels doesn’t mean others are not the same, and likewise isn’t a reason for them to face different consequences for their actions from the view of an observer

I would have hauled out a second camera and started taking pictures doubletime.

Beware the beast man, for he is the Devil’s pawn. Alone among God’s primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother’s land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home, and yours. Shun him, for he is the harbinger of death.

A little wisdom from Mohandas Gandhi

“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”

“If Christians would really live according to the teachings of Christ, as found in the Bible, all of India would be Christian today.”

And a little now from GK Chesterton

“The Bible tells us to love our neighbors, and also to love our enemies; probably because they are generally the same people.”

“The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried.”

I think I have a better one:

“The last Christian died on the cross.”

Actually, Jesus was about smacking down folks under certain circumstances. It’s odd how Jesus is often put forward as some kind of peaceful and ideal hero of a man who’s goodness is tarnished by Christian followers. The bible itself has moments of Jesus siding with use of violence and also shows him flying into violent rage (like when he chased out the money-changers from the temple, lashing them). There are also some choice verses that show Jesus to be a pretty “brimstone and hellfire” kind of guy!

This page has some good information to read up on about how good of an example Jesus supposedly was:
http://ffrf.org/nontracts/jesus.php

I definitely don’t think much of Jesus’ teachings. They’re a contradictory pile of bullshit… just like the rest of the Bible. It’s all too easy to see how dicks like Bruce can come out like this. Depending on what part of Jesus’ example you focus on, I think he’s following that wretched old (fictional) holy-beard just fine!

Interesting Duckhugger… food for thought.

I still like the Friedrich Nietzsche quote quite a bit, thanks for sharing BB.

Actually, I think Jesus said not something terribly complementary about people who make a big deal about their public piety and the pomp of high position.

Doug Bruce is Howard Jarvis reborn, only with a heaping helping of vitriol toward his opponents and those who don’t kow-tow to his anti-tax position.  He’s one of the less pleasant things about living in Colorado.

Totally agree with you on that one decrepitoldfool! I mean, If I came in and gave him a kick because I was offended by his bible and public prayers I would likely find myself arrested and charged without any forethought!

I can’t believe that this hasn’t been more publicised, especially by the left wing (whoop!whoop!) opponents of ol’ Dougie.
Going back to Les’s point about turn the other cheek etc, we can hardly surprised that worshipers of a fictional being who calls himself all merciful, having created hell, and then goes on to add a further layer of irony to the matter by saying that he hates hypocrites! confused
