According to the folks over at CNN.com Lost in Space villain Jonathan Harris has died. Harris played Dr. Zachary Smith, the saboteur responsible for the Robinson family’s ship going off course in the original series. Dr. Smith ended up being trapped on the ship himself and spent the rest of the series causing trouble and screaming like a little girl when threatened. He was great fun to watch.

Being a fan of Jonathan Harris since the early ‘60s (when The Third Man was still being shown on TV), it’s hard to believe he’s gone. Such a wonderful talent. I just read an account of his visit to Sydney, Australia in 1994 and the ovations he was given by Lost In Space fans. Heartwarming!
Jonathan sent me handwritten answers to fan letters I wrote to him back in the ‘60s, and you can bet *they* definitely won’t appear on ebay!
Rest in peace, Jonathan, and my sincere condolences to your wife and family.
