I’ve said before that there was a time that I would’ve voted for John McCain for President, that he was the only Republican I was likely to vote for anytime soon, but that all went out the window once he decided he’d do anything to become president including compromising his own core principles. First he started kissing up the Jerry Falwell despite his statements in the past critical of Falwell. Now he’s unable to answer a simple question about condoms:
Q: “I mean, I think you’d probably agree it probably does help stop it?”
Mr. McCain: (Laughs) “Are we on the Straight Talk express? I’m not informed enough on it. Let me find out. You know, I’m sure I’ve taken a position on it on the past. I have to find out what my position was. Brian, would you find out what my position is on contraception – I’m sure I’m opposed to government spending on it, I’m sure I support the president’s policies on it.”
Q: “But you would agree that condoms do stop the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Would you say: ‘No, we’re not going to distribute them,’ knowing that?”
Mr. McCain: (Twelve-second pause) “Get me Coburn’s thing, ask Weaver to get me Coburn’s paper that he just gave me in the last couple of days. I’ve never gotten into these issues before.”
Straight Talk Express my ass. The man can’t remember what position he took on this issue? Does he seriously expect us to believe that he’s so absent minded that he needs someone to remind him what his past opinion was as opposed to checking with someone to find out what answer is the most politically expedient? Give me a fucking break.
Mr. McCain, you’re a major disappointment.

Hmmm...didn’t Barry Goldwater go off the deep end late in life and completely double back on some of his earlier opinions? Must be something about Arizona. Oh well, if it does the same to my Dad, I wouldn’t necessarily call it a bad thing…
