Jesus has returned and he’s a 35 year-old Hindu woman now.

Bet you never saw this one coming, eh?

DURBUN: A Hindu woman has said she is Jesus Christ and claims to have the “stigmata of Jesus” on her palms, feet and stomach, as well as the power to heal the sick.

Katherine Jhawarelall, 35, who has a degree in criminology, said that she was born with the stigmata and also claimed that Hebrew scriptures and religious symbols from the Bible appear on the walls of her home, an international daily reported.
...
She was quoted as saying that she was initially startled “but eventually came to realize and accept who she was.”

Yeah, I’d imagine suddenly realizing you’re not really a female Hindu criminologist, but the second coming of Christ would be just a teeny bit startling. I bet there’s going to be a lot of pissed off old rich white Christian Evangelists out there once they realize the prank Jesus has pulled on them now!

Either way, the computer containing us will need more storage space and processing power than anything we have here. You only know you don’t exist on a computer when there is an infinite quantity of data - things like quantisation or the possible smallest unit of space put limits on how much variety there can be, hence stopping our universe from having an infinitely large quantity of data and making it containable. Sure there are irrational numbers with an infitite number of decimal places affecting things, but those may also apply outside the computer and were simply made to apply here to enough decimal places that we won’t know any different. Your computer’s concept of pi or e is only to a finite number of decimal places, but enough for all intents and purposes

The computer wouldn’t have to contain an infinite string for pi, etc., it would only have to contain algorithms that give that result when called upon.  Rather like the difference between raster and vector graphics; the latter are far more scalable.  Other applicable models (and there would be more than one in play) include cellular automata (just get some coffee, get nice and comfortable, and ask Stephen Wolfram about that one) or fractal iterations.

If you can define the model before knowing the irrational number I guess that can be done - kinda like drawing a circle, you can do it just from knowing radius is constant and from the model you make you derive pi. I have absolutely no idea why pi should have anything to do with circles, but it does, and similarly I have no idea why e should appear in the arrhenius equation, but it is. (actually in the arrhenius case it might be acceptable to use a different exponential so long as you do something to the power to cancel out the change, but nethertheless e has other uses)

It’s still the 26th over there, eh?
It was my mother’s birthday, my mate’s wife’s birthday and Richard Dawkins’ birthday, too.
Cool.

LH, I’d like to read the short story.

Read your Nietzche.

I’ll scan the only copy I can find in, maybe edit it (maybe not, depends on how lazy I feel) and ask you at some point to give me an email- I’ll let you know when.

Unfortunately I can only find the first edition, which as it was typed in the early 90’s before I had a WP is a little rough around the edges.

Thanks LH. Don’t worry about ‘fixing it’.
Send it to the email attached to my name and reference LJ19, LH or SEB in the subject or I’m just as likely to delete it. smile

As for your .... You know it makes sense.
We have an oldish retired AFL player who has given a few very short monologues on the state of anything, signing off with “You know it makes sense. I’m Sam Kekovich.“
Most of the ones listed on YouTube are to do with his Eat Lamb advertising; most others shown on The Fat were much funnier.

Before I came in here there was very little if anything to talk about back in Feb. of 2007.  After I came in your brains engaged.  Most of you had a lot of shit to say to Melanie.  And most of it was that, Shit. I take that back one or two of you had some good points. Shortly after I left your brains again emptied.  It is now quiet in here, no one has a thought or anything to say.  I think that is funny.  Yesturday Jesus said that he loved me.  How does Jesus feel about you?

Or perhaps a Melanie from an alternate universe who is stepping in to protect our universe’s Melanie?  Perhaps as a result of a bizarre transporter accident…

Melanie crawls out from under her rock to say…

Shortly after I left your brains again emptied.  It is now quiet in here, no one has a thought or anything to say.  I think that is funny.

What’s really funny is that you seem to think that this thread is the only thread on this site that anyone ever comments on and that you were the catalyst for anything other than a lot of laughter.

Yesturday Jesus said that he loved me.  How does Jesus feel about you?

He thinks I’m somewhat crass at times, but he finds me funny anyway even though he feels bad about laughing at some of the jokes I make.

Aah ... thanks for the memories, Melanie.  You did get us thinking, though, what with your wit and erudition. You know, since way back in Feb. of 2007, we’ve all really just been holding our breath in anticipation of your next gem.  Please, astound us that we may breathe again!

Yesturday Jesus said that he loved me.  How does Jesus feel about you?

All he said to me was that if it’s underscored with a red wavy line, try that ol’ spell check thingy.  I’m pretty sure it was Jesus.  HE SAID IT IN ALL CAPS.

Amen.

I apologize for double dipping, but I absolutely have to quote this gem, from this thread, back in March.  This may take us in circles, but that seems oddly appropriate now as history sets to repeat:

KPG: Oh, shit, now Melanie’s back….

Fuck, I need a fucking drink. Somebody bring me some whiskey, ‘kay?

Hi, I do believe you madaline. As for anyone else what is the harm in believing her. Things like this happened in the past and know one believed that. Call me crazy too but i dont care. I am here to tell god is coming and he wants people to know because he wants us to turn to him in forgiveness. If you choose not to then that is up to you.
