Everything written by an author is true for the author. What I read is filtered through all the truths I’ve learnt since before I was able to think. Hopefully, at 46 days from 60 years old, I’m getting better at being more sceptical about what I read but I still enjoy reading.

Since I was allowed to go the library by myself at about 12 I’ve been reading – mostly fiction – I could list more than 100 authors from Dumas and Sabatini to Yerby and Clavell, to Mandino and Bach to Buffa and Child. When I sold my last house I had to get rid of way over 1000 books – they included four bibles (I kept the one mum gave me 21st August 1959 when I went to a Jesus camp) Fiction, Non-fiction, Religious, NON and Alternative thoughts and or therapies, Psychology and others that don’t fall into an immediate categorisation. I read a book back in the 60, 80s and 90s by Dale Carnegie called: How to Win Friends and Influence People. It helped me a lot in many ways - to understand others and to understand myself.
Find a copy and let it flow through you - admittedly it has xian overtones but it’s not all bad.

Don, I’m sorry I hurt your feelings by pointing out that I don’t have the time to discombobulate the perfect order you seem to think you have in your posts. You really should go to school for a while and work on ordering your thoughts a bit better. I don’t say this maliciously, I’ve been going to college myself more or less constantly all my adult life. I’ve got two degrees already and by the end of this year I should have another two, then it’s off to law school as soon as I can afford it and get in. This is, as you say, no BS. I believe that a formal education is really the only sort of real education for promoting communication.

If your difficulties are indeed because of brain damage then all I can say in comfort is that I’m sorry for your loss, but that as we each rise to our own abilities occasionally it’s also important for us to realize our limitations. Maybe if this isn’t clear to you then you can have your nurse read it to you and explain it for you.

To communicate properly with you though would require that each of us translate what you’re saying to some format inside our heads that looked more like what normal people write when they’re chatting it up here on SEB, and then take the time to respond to it. I agree with LJ Don, you need to read what people are telling you.  You could have spared yourself a lot of trouble, and your keyboard from a lot of un-needed torture.

I can’t say that I’m particularly interested in whatever Don has to say, but there is something that piques my curiosity. If y’all believe that Don is, in fact, brain-damaged, then why bother to egg him on? Nothing against a game of Sling the Mud, but it doesn’t seem right if the other player is a few chapters short of the rule book.

Actually, Elwed, I’m about half convinced that “Don” is somebody yanking our chain. Nobody is that fucking daft.

Many of us have tried to walk away from the fray, but the goofy little guy doesn’t seem to want us to stop beating on him.

Even if he’s been kicked in the head a few times and has several metal plates in his head he could still benefit from more and better schooling. I had a friend once who had some sort of enormous beam or spar fall onto his head when he was in middle school and he applied himself and didn’t come across too badly once he learned how to speak again.

For that matter I have another friend whose dyslexia and Louisiana public school education has made for a truly tragic case of “Hrm?” when you catch him blowing off emails at people sometimes, but he’s aware of it and tries to spellcheck. His ideas and communication in general weren’t poor, it was just that his spelling was absolutely obscuring most of the time. We’re not even going to go into his handwriting.

Anyways, I’m in the spirit that every voice should at least be able to be taught how to be heard. An educated population being necessary for a properly running democracy and all that? If not Don then maybe some other fuckwit out there that has read Don’s posts and everyone’s responses and gone “I’m even less coherent, how could I possibly communicate my inner rage at the universe at these people and come across as credible?” Sometimes a little education makes a great deal of difference. Of course it helps if your ideas and such are sound too, but education aids in that as well.

Paolo could do with some schooling as well, if only so as to teach him why plagiarism is wrong. I’m not going to apologize for telling anyone to go back to school though, because I think education is something that most everyone would benefit from more or less constantly through their whole life. There’s always something else to learn about.

And the best (or scariest) part is that the leader of the camp is HAPPY with the way she came across, she thought this movie was a fair protrayal of what goes on there.  *shudder*
