Holy crap!!!  That is so amazingly awesome!!!  I guess I missed that entry as well.  Although, I did have quite a few pictures in their collages they had in Disneyland.

I haven’t been to WDW in a few years.  I miss it.

Yes it would have been cool, But to me this was even cooler. And I would not trade the memory for anything. In 1959 I was 5 almost 6. We drove from my aunts house in Burbank,CA to Anaheim. It was a two lane road with mostly Orange Groves on both sides. We stopped and picked some. And then we went to Disney Land. Walt was there, as was all his friends.

I rest my case regarding the American Disneyland Mentality.  Go gorge yourselves.  But, alas, how will they keep the smoke from the burning cities, biowar, riots, etc. from seaping into this “Magic” kindgom of dellusion, hmm?

rob, I’ve been going to D-land for over 30 years.  The place holds special memories for me as a kid.  I like to go there ‘because’ it is free of the distractions of the outside world.  My mind can be free, and I am able to engulf myself in that world.  My daily concerns, and anger at the news, and horrors of the world, is gone from my mind.  I recognize and accept that this is my escape from the daily routine.  I don’t live there.  It’s just a few days a year that I cherish spending with those I love.

I, too, enjoy the DisneyDream.  I’ve even taken a few foreign colleagues to the World version.  But, i also recognize it is a symptom of a pernicious cultural pathology in our society.  Case in point (hilites mine):

It’s important to understand that the very things you goto Disney for are the exact elements that shall, in the near coming years, make impossible it’s continued existence.  If we as a cultural collective continue to ignore the world, the world will come to us (e.g., 9/11v1).  ThemeParks, et al, will soon be untenable security risks, due in large part to our desire to “forget” and “escape” from the growing global reality.

I don’t think we have to worry about Congress shutting down Disney Land/World. Disney owns them.

As for the bombing type of terrorists, they do minimal damage. They only kill a few hundred, maybe thousands, of people a year. Not that even one life is insignificant, but there are plenty of bigger things to worry about.

If a bomb did go off at Disney World, Disney would close off the damaged sections and open up the rest of the park within days.

There are plenty of things to worry about. The shutting down of huge money makers is not one of them. Don’t worry, be happy.
