I occasionally get right-wing bullshit like this in my inbox as well. I used to craft clever responses to the senders, but now I figure that a quick delete is all these messages are good for.

Yeah, we are practically becoming a minority, what being well over 60% of the total population (or whatever the actual number is) and all.  Personally, I think we need to focus on the financial and social disparities in our supposedly “classless” society. 

Race is just a way for the powerful to get the rest of us to not focus on the real issue, the fact that society is built on keeping everyone who isn’t already on top, on the bottom.  We’ve had some advances in recent history to counter this, but it seems things like worker’s rights, and civil rights are being rolled back more and more.  I know there are definite racial problems of course, but I think they are mostly just a red herring to keep our focus off the real issues.

Well it sounds like this person is serious. And I don’t think of myself as a “ Native American “ I am a Wicasa = Person. I am a Citizen of the Universe. I would speak more of my language but it seems some other folks a long time ago could not adopt the “Live and let Live attitude”. They also decided that my Great Grand Father could not live on his land anymore which is now the R.J. Michigan’s upper peninsula has several events celebrating its Finnish (white) heritage. West Michigan celebrates its Dutch (white) heritage. Nobody claims these events are racist (because the events are not racist). However, they are celebrating real cultures not some ‘white culture’ nonsense. Anybody supporting a singular, monolithic ‘white culture’ is usually racist.

Jeez - if we could get rid of colour, religion and tribalism/nationalism, humanity would have little left to hate and fight about.

Sad to say that any race is slightly superior in any way but negro people have less chance of getting sun cancer that white people, and I heard about this pill that only responds with negro people, but I’d have to research that to validate it.

I thought it was an erratic rebuttal that overreached by trying to counter ever single point to widely varying degrees.  Much of the attempted rebuttals seemed to be targetted at strawmen, off target, or flat out missed a gimme.

Re the lack of White-American or Europe-American designations: there are.  We just break them down to individual countries.  Irish-Americans.  German-Americans.  Italian-Americans.

There are white ghettos (go to Appalachia, for starters) And when was the last time that anyone has read of a drive-by in the mountains of West Virginia?  More to the point, the very definition of the word ghetto pretty much excludes nice and rural Appalachia.  Not that the original author was dead on with his comment, rather than referring to a ghetto I think a mention of the high rate of black on black violence would have had greater gravitas.

Umm, what does the history of the UNCF and black colleges have to do with the near certain probability that a white scholarship or college to help disadvantaged white children would provoke a category 5 liberal shitstorm?  Hmm, just a ponder, are there scholarships in the same hyphenated format as our ethnic identities?  No white only scholarships, but are Irish-American or German-American only scholarships out there?

And yes, Black History Month has a proud history and a noble origin.  Still does not convince me that White History Month would not provoke another one of those Cat 5 shitstorms.  I guess we will just have to make do with Irish-American and German-American day/week/month proclamations.  I suppose all us white folks should actually take it as a point of pride that ‘white culture’ is so vast and encompassing that we need to break it down into such a high number of subcategories while all black nationalities get lumped into one generic group representing an entire continent.

Am scrolling through the rebuttal page as I burn through this brain dump and have gotten to the part that really annoyed me.  Thank you so much Ms Rebuttal for continually lumping any form of white pride in exclusively with hood wearing, racist, murdering arsewipes.  Thank you for picking the worst possible elements to represent the white community.  Would anyone approve were I to define black culture exclusively with pics and references to innercity gangbangers? 

What was up with the ‘who pays for that’ comment on Chambers of Commerce?  Duh to the original author for not realizing that member businesses pay.  Duh to the rebutal author for skipping through another likely shitstorm were some white owned business try to start a racially themed Chamber.

I think the rebuttal went way off target with wedding party anecdote.  If anything that lent a tad bit of support to the original.  My take was that he was not arguing that nonwhites can’t be racist, but that nonwhites do not get called on the racism at near the same frequency or vehemence as white racists.

What else jumps out...oh, screw it.  I’ll just wrap up this ramble by saying a pox on both missives.  One was a simplified bit of racial whining and the other was the same with overtones of white guilt on top. 

Tom B.—no superiority in a general objective sense, but perhaps in an evolutionary sense.  But, of course, it’s a double-edged sword, only being “superior” in a given context i.e. the environment where they evolved.  For example, While they may have a lower incidence of skin cancer, they produce less vitamin D than caucasians, especially in northern climates where there is less sunlight.  Superior adaptation, nothing more.

Here’s a little more nuanced examination of the difference between race and culture from the Swamp Pundit: Affirmative Action.  (and this time, I remembered to activate the link!)

To wit: subcultures (which he calls “mini-cultures” but it’s just a difference in terminology) prosper or fail according to the life strategies they embody.  This is not race, it is culture.  To the extent that race and culture line up, one can be mistaken for the other.  One culture can be superior to another; races, not.

And yes, as a member of the academic community I do get a little tired of being told that I have to walk on eggshells around people of color.  I have never enslaved anyone, oppressed anyone, or discriminated against anyone, but I have the misfortune to look like some people who did.

Racial superiority is a joke. Racial identity and its origins is tied directly to human evolution. We look like we do because its part of a larger survival mechanism. African-Americans tend to have hair with a tight curl pattern because it increases surface area and displaces heat better. Hair grows on the portions of the body that tend to lose the most heat and African-Americans originated in the tropics. Big fucking deal. Every aspect of our biology can be traced to a survival mechanism of some sort and to argue that one race is superior to the other because of it is ridiculous. As far as racism in America is concerned, well, I think there is a problem with aligning yourself with any group because of the color of your skin. You lose your identity and assume that of the group. I know African-Americans who identify with slavery even though they are from Africa. I know whites who identify with the Holocaust because they converted to Judaism. I think this is a similiar issue. Racism in America today is no where near as bad as it was in the past. I honestly believe its time most Americans take some time to take a breath and say “What the fuck does it matter?” Really, this would easily be a non-issue if most Americans simply realized how ridiculous it really is.
