But for sheer, vicious nastiness, no one can compete with Ann Coulter, whose latest error-riddled effusion is an attack on former Georgia Sen. Max Cleland, who has been critical of the Bush administration.

There is no common sense, decency, nor honesty shown by either the liberals nor the conservatives.  There hasn’t been for years.  Seeing some of the drivel that comes out of both camps, and the media, disgusts me.

If she’s wrong, and it can be proved, she should be sued until her eyes bleed and then gagged.

I do think it’s telling, on a lot of sites (not this one), that a government commendation is proof positive of someone’s war record / exactly what happened, but receipts for wages from the same government are dismissed as completely suspect as proof of service.

When did it become fashionable to make shit up about people?

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

I’m currently trying to work through both Slander and Treason on audiobook.  I’m partway through Slander and it is already almost impossible to stomach.  She seems to go out of her way, even in the context of a single chapter, to contradict herself and take party to the very activities she tries so hard to acuse others of.  She really can’t even get through a single chapter without showing how hypocritical her main points are.

Regardless of the truth of what she acuses other of, her writing makes it hard to take anything she says seriously.  She needs to fire her editor, if she had one.

After reading Molly Ivin’s article via VernR’s link I must, in the interest of accuracy, make something clear in my above post - The Silver Star Max Cleland was presented with was for heroism a few days BEFORE he lost his limbs in a grenade explosion. It is possible that he became a stumbling slack-ass in the days following his commendable actions, I just don’t know.

I also agree with Doccus regarding the dirty tricks and slimy campaigning by both major parties that has been going on for… well, as long as I can remember. It is despicable and should be beneath anyone vying for a position in office, to be considered for LEADERSHIP roles in government. I too am disgusted with it.

We differ slightly on the wages = service issue however. I believe that a man who has the clout to skip to the head of the line in the Texas National Guard so he can avoid being sent to Vietnam could easily continue receiving paychecks even if he had never come to a single drill. Preferential treatment for the children of the rich and powerful. If you are willing to protect a Bush from harm by sheltering him with stateside duty while the children of other lesser families go off to die to protect his rights then why not give him a paycheck to boot? Hell, it probably wasn’t even enough to cover his blow and booze habit! That he was so insulated from harm and yet still may have shirked his duty turns my stomach.

And for more good times read his VA Budget Proposal for 2005 and see just how much he appreciates those men and women serving in iraq (all America’s veterans actually). He asks them to die for him then he takes away their benefits. What a guy.

Just another example of creepy fascism. Gotta get the people riled up before they’ll grant sweeping powers to the executive branch. Burn the Reichstag. Blame the Jews. Remember, Hitler was democratically elected in an election that leaves fewer questions unanswered than the 2000 debacle and abortion of democracy.

i enjoy reading the posts here, and the opinions posted by the sitemaster are well articulated.  by the same token, i find it rather humorous that said author would label himself an ‘independant’.  When your major policy positions line up with a major party, and the majority of your posts are geared toward insulting/criticizing the opposite party, it is rather disingenuous to not own up to the party you support.  while i am no big fan of gwb, nor of his domestic policies, i don’t see why the democrats can’t beat him on policy dispute alone.  lets leave the mud slinging to matt drudge and bill mahrer (sp?).

Now if you have read much of what I have written here or elsewhere I have ALWAYS stated that I am a liberal, and damn proud. I am far more liberal than most Democrats but if it appears to you that I tend to line up with them exclusively it may be because they are at least a LITTLE liberal, unlike conservatives. You think I didn’t complain about Clinton passing NAFTA or bombing that aspirin factory in Sudan? I did, but overall Clinton was much more liberal socially and until recently I was far less interested in politics.

I will own up right now to the fact that I will vote for whoever the Democratic nominee will be, not because Kerry gets me all revved up or Edwards gives me a stiffy but because I find Bush so vile and repugnant that I would almost consider a Satan/Hitler ticket to be more appealing than Bush/Cheney. Almost.

Finally regarding whom I tend to target with my vitriolic commentary, it is whoever crawls up my nose at the moment. Today it was raggedy Ann tomorrow it will probably be Bush again (it’s like he has a time share in there) but it could be anyone.

This is one where both sides are full of shit. Max Cleland served his country with valor (hence the silver star), but he wasn’t wounded while being valorous, he wounded himself accidentally. That means Ann Coulter is full of shit because he did perform valorously, and deserves praise for that, but the Democrats are also full of shit because he did not leave his limbs on the battlefield as they so often like to state.
