Scientologists, as so ably demonstrated by actor Tom Cruise, don’t believe in psychotherapy so it’s with no small amount of irony that I present the following news item:
“She had a history of being diagnosed with a psychotic illness in late 2006 at Bankstown Hospital, but follow-up from the mental health team was apparently declined by her parents because of their alleged Scientology beliefs,” Cross said.
The woman is accused of fatally stabbing her 53-year-old father and 15-year-old sister and wounding her 52-year-old mother, who raised the alarm as she collapsed in a neighbour’s garden.
The mother remains in a serious but stable condition after undergoing surgery for multiple stab wounds.
I wonder if that’s enough to change her mother’s mind on the value of psychiatrists, but I’d bet it isn’t. True faith is stubborn like that.

While I dont want to agree even the slightest with the Church of Scientology (duh, it’s a Church), I do think that psychiatrists tend to be just a little too ready with the drugs. And I base this opinion on no evidence whatsoever, just my personal beliefs.
Not that its relevant in this case however.
