Man, those poor Floridians can’t get a break. The cleanup from Charley isn’t even finished and Frances looks set to knock the stuffing out of the other side of the state. Here’s hoping all of you who are in Florida have battened down your hatches and moved to higher ground if necessary. I’m going to have to dig out the phone numbers for my cousins and aunt and uncle who live down in Daytona and ring them up after this one to make sure they made it through.
“As the hurricane draws closer to the coast, the time to prepare diminishes,” said Ed Rappaport, deputy director of the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
Rappaport said Frances threatened to be a much more dangerous storm than Charley, another Category 4 hurricane that slammed Florida’s opposite coast August 13 killing 25 people.
“This is a much bigger storm than Charley was, maybe two to three times the size,” he said. “There’ll be a large area of damage when this comes ashore.”
Not to gloat, but it’s things like this that make me appreciate Michigan and its relatively boring weather. This makes the occasional mid-winter ice storm seem like a walk in the park.
I wonder if Jeb Bush will make another stupid comment about God in relation to this hurricane like he did with Charley.

Maybe its God’s way of saying: Four more years of this - if you don’t vote for you know-who.
