Speaking of Republican House Speaker Dennis Hastert, it seems he’s not above engaging in a little smear campaign from time to time when it suits him. Lloyd Grove of the New York Daily News reports on a comment Hastert made on Fox News Sunday where he implied that billionaire financier George Soros is a drug kingpin, or at least accepts money from them.
“You know, I don’t know where George Soros gets his money. I don’t know where — if it comes overseas or from drug groups or where it comes from,” Hastert mused. An astonished Chris Wallace asked: “Excuse me?” The Speaker went on: “Well, that’s what he’s been for a number years — George Soros has been for legalizing drugs in this country. So, I mean, he’s got a lot of ancillary interests out there.” Wallace: “You think he may be getting money from the drug cartel?” Hastert: “I’m saying I don’t know where groups - could be people who support this type of thing. I’m saying we don’t know.”
George Soros has been a thorn in the side of the Republican party for awhile now and he’s been donating quite a bit of his money to various independent media campaigns that he hopes will help put George Bush out of a job. That Hastert would stoop to such a low isn’t particularly surprising as he’s done so on more than one occasion. This is just another example of the kind of Republican “leadership” we have in place these days. If they can’t shut you up then they’ll just make shit up about you.

Holy crap!
Does Hastert have legs? Or does he just slither around on his belly?
