Does Hastert have legs?  Or does he just slither around on his belly?

Not even to mention some of the bullshit Guiliani passed off last night in his speech at the convention.

Drug kingpins would be pretty much out of business overnight if most drugs were legalized.  Their profits depend on drugs being illegal.  It’s a lot harder to make money with legal drugs. Hastert’s aspersion ... just… doesn’t… make… sense!

Unless you recognize it as a sleazy broadside to pander guilt by association.  Oh, it makes perfect sense now.

I’m all for making selling drugs legal (heck, even subsidized and government-controlled) if a person can prove that he’s already addicted to a substance.

That would take care of most drug crime/the drug cartel incomes and still keep a serious barrier against ‘curious’ people who otherwise just might decide to try cocaine because its now legal.

And the illegal drug pushers would have no interest in getting people hooked, because as soon as a person is addicted, he could switch to government drugs.

Okay, enough dreaming. Ain’t gonna happen. But it would work much better than what you got (war on drugs) or what we got here in Germany (just look away from all but the hardest drugs).

Well, thanks to Chris Wallace for putting the Republican-Approved words in Hastert’s mouth.  Hastert may have made the innuendo, but his interviewer spelled it out for the audience.  Nice way to launch your smear, Denis.

I’m surprised he (Hastert) didn’t raise the old chestnut about the Jews controlling high finance! After all George is Jewish. While we’re at it why not suggest that Jews are responsible for perpetuating the drug problem too? Probably because extremists have already co-opted these arguments, and the Repubes wouldn’t want to appear unoriginal:-)

I am really glad to read all of your answers. So much for turning the other cheek. Slander and defameing character are actionable. And he did it outside the House Chamber so if Mr. Soros wants to he can get all of Mr. Hasterts money. Can he be so drunk with power not to realise this fact.

Soros grew up in Hungary under the Nazis and Soviets. In the last couple of decades he has donated about $5B help former eastern bloc countries to achieve democracy and $1B to a number of causes in Russia. This is the Republican Party’s tactic of trashing the opposition.

Now that I think about it… we don’t know for sure that Dennis Hastert isn’t a bank robber or a child molester. I’m just saying we don’t know.
