Every now and then I get a bit of news that makes me squeal with delight like a little kid and this is one of those bits of news:

LONDON, England (AP)—The sixth novel in J.K. Rowling’s blockbuster Harry Potter series, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” will go on sale in Britain and the United States on July 16, publishers said Tuesday.

In other words, her fans will have to take the book off their Christmas gift lists, and make it part of their New Year’s resolutions.

“We are delighted to announce the publication date,” which also will take place in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, said the joint announcement by Nigel Newton, the chief executive of Bloomsbury Publishing Plc in England, and Barbara Marcus, the president of Scholastic Children’s Books in the United States.

“J.K. Rowling has written a brilliant story that will dazzle her fans in a marvelous book that takes the series to yet greater heights. ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ delivers all the excitement and wonder of her best-selling Harry Potter novels,” they said.

Oh yeah. Where’s the pre-order form? I’m ready to sign up now. Usually Christmas is a date I spend half a year looking forward to and now I have something to look forward to in the summer. It’ll be like… like Christmas in July!

What can I say but it’s about time?  Maybe Ms. Rowling has her own life to live, but that’s a poor excuse for keeping us on tenterhooks for so long.  Harry and Ginny could have been married by now with a little witch and wizard in diapers…

Your Dad still laughs that no publisher in America would touch the stories and that Scholastic Children’s Books have made millions by publishing it.  What A Coup!

Yes, it is about time. The only other author I can think of that takes as long as Ms. Rowling to finish the next book in the series they are writing is George R. R. Martin. He has been working on A Feast for Crows for a long time. Of course he also managed to alienate a (vocal) minority of his readers by placing a John Kerry banner ad on his site. No, I’m not kidding. Some people have said they refuse to buy his next book because he is a John Kerry supporting Democrat.  rolleyes

I have yet to meet anyone who has (vehemently) said they would stop buying Orson Scott Card’s works even though he has jumped on the “Oh, look chapter 9 verse 5 of the Quran proves Muslims are evilâ€? bandwagon. Anyone who actually managed to catch my post in response to grey’s last guest entry before he pulled it knows that the “Oh look, Quran 9:5â€? crowd is something that I find really stupid. Mr. Card, as someone who makes his money as a writer, should, of all people, be able to comprehend the fact that the 1st through 13th verses of Surah IX are ONE COHESIVE UNIT and must be taken as a whole. (Since a few people requested it, I promise I will get around to re-writing my post about Surah At-Taubah, verse 5 sometime after the holidays.)

I’d like to say that I summed my excitement up in one word because I’m verbally economical. Of course the truth it’s because I’m doing 50 other things and didn’t have time to really WRITE more words. wink

Minx,
That was one syllable. Not a word.

Take your tiles back and you lose your turn - and now I know who has the Q.

OOOOH!  July 16th.  makes it a good 33rd birthday present for me or as a reward if I don’t have a heart attack on the three day walk!  To sum up my excitement allow me two words.  FUCK YEAH!
