According to word from the folks over at Shacknews, the highly anticipated (by yours truly in particular) Half-Life 2 has been pushed back from it’s September 30th release date.

The previously announced September 30th release date for Half-Life 2 is being pushed back. We are currently targeting a holiday release, but do not have a specific “in-store” date to share at this time. We will release that information as soon as we have confirmed a new date.

And there was much gnashing of teeth. Oh well, I suppose I’ll have to hope it ends up under my Christmas tree as any pushback puts it squarely into the holiday season and I generally stop buying video games around November so as not to screw up anyone’s gift purchases for me. Guess I’ll have to use my Best Buy Gift Card on Medal of Honor: Breakthrough after all.

It shames me to say it (as an old guy) but I love Half Life!  I most enjoy blasting my kid to bits in Killbox!  I downloaded the movie demo of the new version and it is incredible!  I was looking forward to getting the new release…hopefully it’s released before Xmas.  I hope they don’t do what the Duke Nukem developers did...string people on forever and not release the product.

Here’s the same bogus statement 3DRealms has had on their website for years:

The release date of this game is “When it’s done”.  Anything else, and we mean anything else is someone’s speculation.  There is no date.  We don’t know any date.  If you have a friend who claims they have “inside info”, or there’s some game news site, or some computer store at the mall who claims they know - they do not.  They are making it up.  There is no date.  Period.

Bastards…don’t they know what harm they do???

I’ve got both UT2003 and Quake 3, but I don’t tend to play them much. I was never a big fan of straight deathmatch. Half-Life with it’s team based options first got me hooked and then Counter-Strike with it’s hostage rescue and bombing missions really reeled me in. The Tug of War and Objective games in MOH:AA is why that’s my current favorite.
