A lot of people were disappointed when it was announced that Half-Life 2 would substitute Counter-Strike: Source in lieu of providing a multiplayer mode of its own especially after seeing footage of the gravity-gun in action. Some were upset enough that they promised to take it upon themselves to start developing their own HL2 multiplayer mod as soon as the SDK was released, but Valve has beaten them to the punch with a surprise announcement of their release of Half-Life 2: Deathmatch. This is a free add-on for owners of HL2 available for download via the Steam client.

For those of you hopelessly addicted to The Sims 2 you’ll want to take the time to download and apply the first official patch for the game as it fixes a number of bugs both major and minor in the game. One of the more amusing, if frustrating, bugs squashed in this release is the one that allowed visitors to kidnap babies or toddlers they happened to be holding by leaving the lot. There’s a list of around 20 or 30 bug fixes listed on the update page, but it looks like you’ll want to grab it if you play the game at all.

Great.  It’s bad enough, having to frag fundies and other fools here with the BFG (Better Facts Gun) -now there’s yet another reason to avoid work…

Uh, Zilch, wouldn’t a “Better Facts Gun” imply that the fundies and fools were using facts to begin with?

Trotsky- I sit corrected.  Les, thanks for the gaming news.  Anytime I can inform my 16 year old son about what’s up, I get a couple of brownie points, and with teenagers, parents need all the brownie points they can get.

I am playing a game called Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, which uses the Half Life 2 game engine. There is something REALLY odd about the game. If I play without doing anything it is quite jerky. BUT if I ALT-TAB out of the game then return back into the game, the game becomes quite smooth. But I was wondering why is this so since in many of my other games ALT-TAB out and returning to the game usually would result in weaker performance rather than better game performance. Wondering is there any similar sort of problem with HL2?
