The BBC has a news article about about some poor bastard who’s stomach fell out into his hands recently. Seems an Australian man had been in the hospital to have cancerous tumours removed from his abdomen earlier in the month and the surgeons had closed the incision with surgical staples which is pretty standard these days. Well, these staples had just been removed by the Doctor the other day and this poor fellow was at home relaxing in his garden when the wound burst open and his stomach plopped out into his hands. He screamed out in pain, wrapped a towel around his midsection to hold his innards… well… in and his girlfriend called for an ambulance. They plan to sue the hospital, natch.
But that’s not the funny part. The funny part is the quote the BBC got from the spokeswoman for the Royal College of Surgeons of England when the BBC News folks contacted them for their take on the situation:
“Operations should be carried out so that does not happen.”
