So it’s been five years since the events that took place on September 11th, 2001 and the media is short stroking it for all they can today. The morning news was almost non-stop treacly 9/11 content and that’s only because they couldn’t figure out how to work it into the weather and traffic reports. The folksy guitar music they kept playing before each commercial break was so bad it almost sent me into insulin shock. Needless to say I’m not going to be watching much TV today.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the enormity of the events that took place five years ago or the impact it had on the nation in general, and the people directly involved in particular, but I’m not much on spending a lot of time on past tragedies when there are plenty of problems in the here and now that could use our attention. It also doesn’t help my cynicism at all that so many politicians have turned it into a political football to kick around in an attempt to justify all manner of wrongs from the Iraq war to the Patriot Act.
So this is all I’m going to write about it today. It’s certainly fresh enough in everyone’s mind that it’s the last thing I need to comment much on and if you’re a regular then you’ve already read my past writings about it and know where I stand (and if you don’t know then there’s always the archives). Enough other people will be wallowing in the date that I don’t feel the need to bother. I have other things to spend my energy on.

It’s not about wallowing Les. It’s about rememberance of those involved. Worth a read http://edcone.typepad.com/wordup/2006/09/what_has_not_ch.html
