If you’re a Firefox web browser fan then you’ll be happy to hear that the release of Firefox 3 will happen next Tuesday:

After more than 34 months of active development, and with the contributions of thousands, we’re proud to announce that we’re ready. It is our expectation to ship Firefox 3 this upcoming Tuesday, June 17th. Put on your party hats and get ready to download Firefox 3 — the best web browser, period.

I’ve been using the Release Candidates both at home and at work and it’s definitely an improvement in both speed and usability. Good to see the final version is just about ready.

I have a love hate relationship with Firefox. They just can’t seem to get the memory leaks fixed. At least on the mac they can’t. It is the only application that makes my system unstable.

I am going nuts waiting for 10am PDT. Why didn’t they release it at midnight GMT?

Thing is, we’re doing four new Windows builds (thanks to M$ inability to separate hardware and software abstraction layers) and there are several utilities that we can’t install until after the browser goes in.

And will we have to compile the Linux version ourselves?  Some of us aren’t that slick yet with Linux.

I’ve finally made the jump (I had some UI dislikes with the previous versions, so I had soldiered on with IE - which gave me lots of trouble on some pages - including SEB!).

Still have a few grumbles. I can’t find how I can change the scroll wheel speed for going through a page (for some reason I can’t change it through my Win2000 anymore) and I can’t change the little bookmark icon graphics anymore, which you could in IE. As some of them are just plain stupid-looking (SEB is a pretty good one though) and I am a neat freak, that kind of thing just hassles me.

On the whole, I am quite happy though. Just still feels a bit ODD sometimes (after years of IE).

Anybody who voluntarily uses IE for years is bound to be a bit ODD wink
