It seems comedian Mario Digiorgio and I are of the same mind. I’ve often wished I could afford to do this as well:

Dueling Billboards

I love it.

Why is it that the religious right gets right up in your face and when you tell them to please go away, they scream that they’re being opressed?

They’re creating the war they think is already going on.  People put up billboards all over the place that preach the word of God.  I live in Wisconsin.  I see a couple every day on the way to work, yet when someone puts one up that encourages people not to follow God, not only do some people get upset, but the advertising company that owns the billboard freaks saying they don’t want people to get the wrong idea of THEM, never mind that little thing about not taking sides or not discriminating.  It’s all about the two or three people who complain.  If I had the money, I’d put up a message on a billboard that just says “Freedom From Religion”

Okay.. okay… end of rant.

Here in Minnesota we have a veritable plethora of fetus billboards as well as churchy-church stuff.  Just as annoying, and insulting to the intelligence.  Some can be pretty gross, too.  And has anyone else noticed the little Jesus-fish showing up in local advertising?  It can’t be just happening here in MN.  Usually in those weekly or monthly mailers, there’ll be at least a couple of ads with the little fish, sort of casually placed somewhere unobtrusive in the ad.  Any business that advertises that way automatically loses my business.

I think it’d be fun to put up billboards with “quotes” from non-christian represtntations of gods.  There’s lots of pretty colorful pantheons out there, from the Aztecs to Egypt to FSM.

Actually I’ve always wanted to buy a lifesized statue of Kali to put in my yard, you know the traditional one where she is nude, dancing, wearing a necklace of skulls, 6 arms and all. One holding a decapitated head of another hindu god and one hand spreading apart the lips of her vagina. For where I live plenty of people have statues of Jesus and Mary and such in their yards and I actually do have a (tantric) hindu side to my philosophy… Provable in court too. The legal battle that I am sure would follow would be greatly amusing to my simple minded ass. lmao

I remember a story in Weird New Jersey magazine about a statue that had been used in a movie (some hot 40’s movie star had danced seductively before it in a temple scene), and ended up in someone’s back yard in Mt Laurel.  I found a picture online:

He also graced the cover of one issue of Weird NJ a few years ago.  Wouldn’t you love to have that in your back yard?  I heard rumor that it was in the front yard for awhile, but ended up getting moved due to complaints from neighbors.
