SEB’s favorite creationist whipping boy, “Dr.” Kent Hovind, has lost his battle with the Escambia County Florida Circuit Court. According to his updated Wikipedia entry he ended up claiming “No Contest” to the charges:

On June 5th 2006, Hovind pled nolo contendere as charged to three counts: constructing a building without a permit, refusing to sign a citation (Case # 2001 MM 023489 A) and violating the county building code (case # 2002 MM 026670 A). Hovind was ordered to pay $225.00 per count. The plea brings to an end a 5-year battle over a $50.00 building permit.

This gives you an insight into Hovind’s reasoning ability. He spent five years and $450 to fight a required $50 building permit. That doesn’t sound too crazy… until you consider what the total cost of fighting the lawsuit:

Hovind estimates he spent $40,000 in legal expenses on this case.

If this doesn’t demonstrate what a dumbass Hovind is then nothing can. $40,450 to fight a $50 permit requirement and he wants us to think he’s smart enough to debunk Evolution? As if that weren’t enough, it looks like he’s forgotten to pay the taxes on his theme park:

As of June 8th, 2006, the property taxes for Dinosaur Adventure Land are in arrears in an amount of $10,402.64 ($5,019.51 for 2005, if paid by 18th June, 2006, and $5,383.13 for 2003 and 2004)

It’s enough to make you wonder just how seriously he takes his own theme park. Knowing Hovind he’ll probably try to write it off on his taxes and claim it’s another example of Christian persecution.

I’ve discovered that it all boils down to brain wiring: your brain is wired to worship magic or it isn’t, either it’s wired to utilize logic or it isn’t, either it’s analytical of myths or it isn’t.

The creationists could hold Hovind himself up as evidence against evolution. He’s obviously not an evolved creature.

Except that Hovind doesn’t pay the income taxes he owes, so it’s kind of hard for him to write *anything* off…
