“Dr.” Kent Hovind explains the dangers of Evolution.

I’ve written about “Dr.” Kent Hovind many times here at SEB to point out what a dishonest idiot he is, but sometimes there’s no better way to illustrate this than to provide you with a clear example. It seems he or one of his fans has been uploading quite a few of his seminars to Google Video and if you do a search for Kent Hovind you’ll find them easily. Below is one such example if you can stomach watching it. It’s an hour long smear campaign against the Theory of Evolution by “Dr.” Kent Hovind which you probably won’t need to watch all that much of to see what an idiot he is.

It opens with a young man with a military haircut sitting next to a small fluttering American flag talking about how some folks say that Evolution “is not a bad philosophy”—making for the first clue that these folks haven’t a friggin’ clue what they’re on about—followed immediately by the claim that it was “Hitler’s religion during the Third Reich.” It just goes downhill from there.

I think it’s important to see an example of the bullshit that people like “Dr.” Kent Hovind are trying to feed the True Believers™ so you have a better understanding of why our science education in this country is in such bad shape. If you’ve not seen it before then you’ll probably be stunned by it. It explains a lot of the idiocy that we sometimes get in the comments here at SEB.

Disturbing doesn’t begin to describe this video. Especially when you realize there are millions of Americans who believe every word of it without question.

No shit!  It’s frightening… and some of those delusional fucksticks are teaching our kids.  THAT is truly criminal.

Speaking of which- my daughter Rozzle will be back in three weeks from a semester of public school in SF, and I will grill her about it.  Of course Northern California is notoriously liberal, so I doubt she’s been indoctrinated with anything like this appallingly simpleminded shit.  Not only that, but she’s staying with friends of ours, one of whom is a Darwinist ichthyologist, so I’m not worried.

In the opening sequence, if “Eric” had replaced the word evolution with Christianity he would have had some good points.

Anybody notice his startling physical resemblence to Timothy McVeigh?  Just an aside.

How can people with such retarded intellectual capacities function enough to find their ass with both hands?

Ah yes, marching proudly forward to the past.  We’re just fucked.

Ok, I got to Kip WhatsHisNuts on the video.  WTF?  All I can say is WOW!  He can’t even string together a conherant argument.  I mean, for an opener, you’re supposed to “grab” your audience’s attention and then run with your bullshit.  I was lost, confused, and then didn’t give a shit.  I shudder to think that people like him are convincing other less intelligent people out there that religion is the way (I’m guessing on this one since I didn’t, nay, CANT finish the video).  You know, its very sad really.  I however hold out hope that the ignorant will kill themselves over shit like this, while the more intelligent of us watch from the side lines.  It really IS all about survival of the fittest.

Oh, and I was told to say I was a “newbie” here.  grin

Cindi: Anybody notice his startling physical resemblance to Timothy McVeigh?

Yeah. It’s the first thought I had.
I watched the 1st half till 12.30 this morning; got up at 7.30 and I watched the 2nd half.
Wow. Scary shit. Scary man.
I thought he was a pretty clever spin-doctor. Taking a morsel of truth, or untruth, then by bending, twisting, stretching, lying, and taking things outa context through ignorance or design, he was able to make a meal from it all based on the premise that god exists and earth is the devil’s playground.
How can ignorant people fight this man’s ‘logic’?
Hallelujah indeed. oh oh

I think the most frightening thing about Hovind is the fact that his charisma practically oozes from his pores. The man really is a charmer, and I suspect that this helps greatly in his battle to win over minds and hearts.

As a Gr. 12 Bio teacher I find this guy completely offensive. He actually spoke in my area last year and I was invited to go but declined rather quickly.  I am teaching evolution to my students right now and I’ve made it clear that I only teach theories that have scientific proof, not based in faith alone. I have yet to have any students (over 100 taught) that has given me any sort of challenge. Plus, not one parent has called to complain and I live in an area with a high Baptist percentage. I could rant for hours on this but I have to stop.

Sepharo, my ichthyologist friend Bruce would laugh if someone accused him of being a realist- he works for the EPA, after all… LOL

I think the most frightening thing about Hovind is the fact that his charisma practically oozes from his pores.

Charisma is a dangerous gift.  The two most charismatic people I’ve ever seen in person were Werner Erhard (anyone remember EST?) and Sun Myung Moon.  Absolute self-confidence, rulers of their universes.  I wonder how their charisma measures nowadays, now that they’ve been taken down a few notches…

Plus, not one parent has called to complain and I live in an area with a high Baptist percentage.

Welcome, Lochheed. Maybe Canadian Baptists are more openminded than their stateside brethren, or maybe you’re just a good teacher.  Or both.

To my (English) ears his accent was really annoying.  That just wound me up more so when he started lying (Athiests hate everyone, they only care for themselves, isnt it funny someone wants to cobtradict the bible) I just lost my temper.  One day I may watch more than the first 5 minutes.  I doubt it.  The guy is a wanker.  I don’t know a bout Charisma- it seems more like get em while their young, cos the Creationist story is easier to sell, and hard to dislodge.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggg

I am annoyed that I have let this fatuous lying slime wind me up.

So far I’ve managed to sit through precisely 1 hr 7 minutes and 4 seconds of the good “Dr.“‘s diatribe lmaoing with my coworkers at his willful ingnorance before I realised how much I’d love to sit in on a dinner with him, Jerry Falwell and Pat Roberts! It’d probably only take roughly 15 minutes before they were all writhing in the floor covered in Jesus’s 2nd coming....

Excellent article but, I’ve seen True Believers™ write on this site that Roman Catholics aren’t really xians.
I’m not sure how they arrive at this conclusion but … I’m not sure how they reach many of their other conclusions either. confused

Having attended, and been temporarily brainwashed by True Believers myself for awhile in my youth, I can say that the arguement that Catholics are not true christians goes something along the following lines:

1. They (Catholics) believe that the Pope’s decrees are equal to biblical truth (i.e. become canon).  This is clearly wrong as obviously only the bible is correct (god’s word).

2. Catholics “worship” idols, and saints (by making prayers to both).  This is wrong since obviously the only entity you should make prayers to is god.

3. Catholics (until recently I believe) believed that only a priest could administer absolution for sins, whereas the bible states that only a personal relationship with Jesus grants you absolution from sin, and no intermediary is necesary, or valid.

There are a whole slew of other reasons for it, and when you break it down, it’s basically one denomination saying another is not good enough because they don’t eat meat of fridays or some other such crap.  Any denomination could use any equally valid (or invalid) arguements to claim that any other denomination is not of the “true” faith.  No doubt some fundamentalists believe that you can’t be a True Believer if you don’t use the good old 1611 King James Bible (I’m convinced that such people believe the ancient Hebrews all spoke middle english.)

I no longer participate in any form of religion and am a full blown “soft” atheist (I don’t believe that god exists, but I am open to the possibility that a god could exist, but there has yet to be any evidence to show this).  I got out of the fundy scene after many, many scary things were said at the church I attended, and I realized that I really couldn’t believe the stuff I was pitching to others; there was just too much crazy, illogical stuff.  Just as with any issue, there are obviously more reasons for my lack of religion, but that’s the best summary of it.

funny how you all bash him because he bashes evolution.

i dont understand how he gives meat to his argument though, and you just scream and whine like little kids how dumb he is, and think that he is in fact the dumb one…

ppl do believe in strange things. i believe in what i know. i know God exists. and you can scream how stupid i am for that. but untill you actually get off your own soapbox and leave the sidewalk, and maybe let Him show Himself to you, you will just sound like the “ignorant person” he sounds like to you…

think for yourself. ignore the trend of this forum and actually ask yourself, hey. maybe science isnt...science…

i’ll go back to musing under the stars
