David Copperfield claims to have found Fountain of Youth.

Illusionist David Copperfield appears to be claiming to have found the legendary Fountain of Youth on an island in the Bahamas that’s part of a group he just coincidentally purchased awhile back for $50 million. What are the chances of that?

[Link] Copperfield is coy about his reasons for the Fountain of Youth claim, but the man best known for entertaining with grand deception insists his archipelago also contains the legendary waters that bestow perpetual youth. Seriously.

“I’ve discovered a true phenomenon,” he told Reuters in a telephone interview. “You can take dead leaves, they come in contact with the water, they become full of life again. ... Bugs or insects that are near death, come in contact with the water, they’ll fly away. It’s an amazing thing, very, very exciting.”

I’m hoping this is just a silly bit of self-promotion on David’s part, but it’s not like he’d be the first person to think he’d discovered the famed fountain. According to the very brief news item he’s quite serious and has “hired biologists and geologists to examine its potential effect on humans” but isn’t letting anyone drink or swim in it yet. You don’t think the fact that the man is 50 years old would play into this at all, do you?

I made a post about, Orac linked to it, and my traffic has gone up a whole bunch.  At least someone is getting some benefit out of his silly statement.

This is his latest illusion, perhaps. LOL

David Copperfield is a few decades ahead of medical science.

I’m from the same home town as Copperfield (Metuchen New Jersey), and I remember him doing kids birthday parties and stuff when he was in high school (he did a friend of mine’s birthday party - he was really good even back then - I remember a really neat thing with red and black hankies and rubber balls, had us totally snowed).  I think he’s building up to a new show - some new mass illusion.  Remember, he’s got to keep up with the new damn kids on the block - that mind freak guy, that pickle-me-in-a-fish-bowl-in-the-middle-of-Manhattan-for-a-month guy - all that goofy stuff.  You gotta get bigger and grander.  So, I think this is all ground work for his next “big thing”.  There’s not much else he can make disappear (maybe he can go to Washington and make the politicians disappear).

I wouldn’t be surprised if it were just a bit of self-promotion that the news reporter is taking a bit too seriously, the article is very brief and doesn’t contain much in the way of quoted material from David himself.

(maybe he can go to Washington and make the politicians disappear).

That would truly be a miracle.
