Illusionist David Copperfield appears to be claiming to have found the legendary Fountain of Youth on an island in the Bahamas that’s part of a group he just coincidentally purchased awhile back for $50 million. What are the chances of that?
[Link] Copperfield is coy about his reasons for the Fountain of Youth claim, but the man best known for entertaining with grand deception insists his archipelago also contains the legendary waters that bestow perpetual youth. Seriously.
“I’ve discovered a true phenomenon,” he told Reuters in a telephone interview. “You can take dead leaves, they come in contact with the water, they become full of life again. ... Bugs or insects that are near death, come in contact with the water, they’ll fly away. It’s an amazing thing, very, very exciting.”
I’m hoping this is just a silly bit of self-promotion on David’s part, but it’s not like he’d be the first person to think he’d discovered the famed fountain. According to the very brief news item he’s quite serious and has “hired biologists and geologists to examine its potential effect on humans” but isn’t letting anyone drink or swim in it yet. You don’t think the fact that the man is 50 years old would play into this at all, do you?

I made a post about, Orac linked to it, and my traffic has gone up a whole bunch. At least someone is getting some benefit out of his silly statement.
