Mom just called to let me know that Dad is coming home for a few days as his pneumonia has cleared up, but they’re not sure when they will reschedule his surgery. So those of you who have been kind enough to give him a ring and lighten his day while he was in the hospital can stop calling now.

I want to extend a very big thank you to all of you who took the time as it really made my Dad’s day to get those calls and hear from people whose comments he reads regularly. It helped to make his stay a little less boring and gave him something to look forward to. Your small act had a big impact and I thank you very much for your time. Once his surgery is scheduled we’ll let you know.

Talking to your dad was MY pleasure.  He is a real gem.

That is very good news, that he is coming home.  Hospitals are tolerable for a day or two, but extended stays can be absolutely excruciatingly boring.

That’s good to hear that your dad’s getting better and coming home should help relieve some of his boredom.

What Loris said!  Hope he can get all this hospital stuff behind him soon and get back to doing what he wants to do.

Les: I’m happy for you and your Dad.  I know what it is to be in a hospital in a strange town, far from home, with no friends around. I was in a VA hospital in Milwaukee a long time ago: in bed for 2 months, in a wheel chair for 2 months and on crutches for a month before discharge. I don’t want to go through that ever again as it was a living hell.  Nothing to do, no one to talk to except similar vets whom you never ask “How ya feeling?â€? because they will tell you, by the hour with a full catalog of ailments and feelings until the mind reels with boredom. So enjoy his stay at home and make sure any hospital stay is accompanied by plenty of support, which I’m sure you will provide.  Incidentally, I hope your job search soon reaches a positive conclusion.  Regards

I’m so glad our small contributions made a positive difference to your Dad. We all gained from the experience, too. Please let us know an update of his situation. And let him know we are all thinking about him and wishing him well.

Yes, please do keep us posted.  Does he have a wishlist of books-on-tape?
