Flipping through channels on TV this evening I happened to pass by the Trinity Broadcast Network when something caught my attention. They were running a show called Creation in the 21st Century with “Dr.” Carl Baugh which their website describes as follows:

Hosted by Dr. Carl Baugh, the foremost doctor on creation science. Presenting scientific evidence for creation and design by a personal creator.

Wow. If you’re in need of a good laugh then you should check out this show. Some of the claims made by the good Doctor will have your sides splitting from laughter. Dr. Carl has his own creation evidence website in addition to being the founder of the Creation Evidence Museum in Glen Rose, Texas.

According to this program you’ll learn fascinating “facts” such as that pre-flood Earth was 10% smaller than it is now and had this amazing canopy around it and a higher carbon dioxide level allowing plants to grow to huge proportions. Which is why God created the dinosaurs as something needed to keep all the giant plants in check. Oh, and eventually all the continents will merge back together again and the dinosaurs, which are apparently hiding in the Congo and other remote places, will once again become common on the Earth.

Watching this guy present his nonsense with a straight face just tickles my funny bone to no end. If you need a good giggle you’d be hard pressed to find anything funnier on another channel.

Doctor… Yeah, Quack doctor!

US legislation must really lack laws against frauds when this kind of BS is possible…
Or maybe it’s just that why this is possible, because it’s BushShit.

And I don’t find anything funny in this, all these things are in recipe for making dictatorships.

PS. Remember that even Stalin tried replacing sciences with own versions.

Did I just see a picture of God’s microwaves penetrating the Earth’s crust? No, I did not see that.  Did I?

Have to agree with E.T.; I mean, I did laugh, but it was nervous laughter.  People who can believe that stuff are actually allowed to vote.

Brr!

OK, I admit it’s a Laugh-Otherwise-You’re-Gonna-Cry type of funny, but it was funny at the time as long as you didn’t think about the fact that there are a lot of people out there swallowing that bullshit.

Dr. Kent Hovind is another one that pisses me off.  I went to three years of undergrad and 4 years of med school to get my M.D.  All the while I had to pass three USMLE board exams before i got my medical license.  Then i had to experience 4 years of hell as an anesthesiology resident.  And at the hospital, i don’t ask people to call me “doctor"---they usually just call me by my first name.  This bullshit pisses me off with these fake mailorder doctorates for theses that could be written by high schoolers.  DAMNIT!

You know what I find really funny is the garish pile of plastic, makeup, hair, and (I’m sure) rolls of pig fat making up the “woman” who’s married to the owner of the TBN station.  Anyone who looks like that and thinks it appears remotely attractive or, in the least, respectable, has to have their head so far up their own ass, they’d start a television station specifically geared towards brainwashing ignorant morons into an evangelical stupor.

I used to have arguements with people in my high school about this rediculous bullshit.  And it really frightens me that people will actually buy into it, thinking this fucking quack is a “scientist” and those fossils he’s peddling are actually real.

You want funny?  Look at the description of the site: NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION.  And yet this man is obviously wearing suits, running a museum, and, I’m pretty sure, sustaining himself off of the… um… oh… what’s the fuckin’ word I’m looking for… wait… it’s on the tip of my tongue… come on… oh yeah - PROFIT from the donations that they get from idiots who think this is a good, Christian cause.  Even from their own fundamentalist standpoint, it’s disgusting, and so blatantly a lie - this shit is so fake, I’m surprised it’s even legal.

Fuck these people up their stupid fucking asses.  I really think we should just take some of those uninhabited islands in Fiji and stick ‘em there.  Maybe the dinosaurs hiding there will eat them.

Watching TBN used to make me laugh when I thought that maybe the people in this country were somewhat aware of the bullshit - and then 9/11 happened, the War started, and Dubya got re-elected.  Now it makes me want wipe those people off the face of the earth in a mass genocide for being such pompous, over-confident ignormamuses in the first place.  But then again, I wouldn’t want to follow in their footsteps.

In a non fucked up world should not complete lunatics such as these be gathered up and straightjacketed?

Here we have Delusional Psychotics walking the streets freely, allowed to vote, drive, and allowed on national TV to spew absurd bullshit to other delusional psychotics.

We have in this country because of this type of shit a bunch of Dominionist that have successfully taken over the Government in a Coup, We are one hail Mary and 2 Fundy Supreme Court Justices away from a Totalitarian Theocracy because we allow lunatics to walk the streets freely.

ya know its bad when folks gobble shit like this
up but its the worst when they go as far as to
buy into perverted forms of ‘education’ for their
children like this.  (this guy has a kids corner
on his website - what the fuck?!)

This pisses me off as much as lowering educational
standards to make educational programs look better.
It seems that if everyones students arent on the
honor roll nowadays it means that teachers are
too hard on kids or standards are too high. (some
parents need to accept the fact that most of their
children arent fucking special or smart- if they
are lucky their children will grow up to be mildly
retarded humans leading mediocre lives at best.)
Then after all of their whining parents ‘take the
time’ to acutally pump their kids heads full of
absolute bullshit.

This Baugh guy evidently was educated in a good
upstanding southern finishing school:
Pacific International University and Pacific
College of Graduate Studies (Missouri Charter) Among MANY others..
[if you went there your education is probably
worthless; get your money back, go to a different school
and get a real education - read on]

Baugh presents supporting info to his theses on his website..
whereby 2000+ graduate students on campus were surveyed
and were found to believe the following:
# 45% believe that fossils resulted from the biblical flood
# 40% believe that cavemen co-existed with dinosaurs
# 30% believe that man originated in the Garden of Eden
# 10% believe that the Earth was created in 4004 B.C.

WOW! thats like 125%!! (it could have been some
individuals answering twice though..)
..I’m inclined to think ‘targeting’ and data ‘skew’
more like non-existant bell curve.

Then he further goes on to say:

U.S. scientific and technological illiteracy has been on
the minds of many scientists and educators in recent months,
and some professional organizations (AAAS, ACI, AAPG, CSA, etc.)
have established committees to develop programs to attack this problem.

Some of these seem to have pretty good actions/stances/policies in regard to
educational presentation and whatnot - I didnt examine them all though. I assume these are here for the sake of lending credulity in some way to him or his awesome data.

and yet he goes on still:

There should be a better approach to the problem of
scientific illiteracy than exclusion of ideas at variance with an
exclusive concept. The fact is that scientific illiteracy occurs
when students are deprived of adequate disclosure pertaining
to available scientific data in their course of study.

He wrote this in 1989.. but some of this shit actually sounds good..
he can talk the talk but then contradicts everything he said
in some of these papers he wrote through his actions.

This guy is the absolute scourge of the fucking earth.
Letting this guy teach anything is as productive as
letting an alcoholic bring a six pack to an AA meeting.

I was in the “crying for all humanity” category. Now it needs the old yeller treatment.

So just for the hell of it I’m gonna ask quick like so I don’t get bombarded with people cursing at me what the counter argument is to the ridiculous claims.  I don’t intend to start debate but I figure I could prolly add a few bookmarks and reliable evolution sites if people can provide them.

Searching for “Baugh” there brought up a whole faexload of info.  They also have links to many other good sites.

Theo,

While not a scientific site, a good “encyclopedia” type site is Wikipedia.  Do a search for evolution and you will get a nice summary of the theories, the evidence, and the debate between scientists.

Besides being ridiculous, Baugh’s “theory” comes from a guy who has false scientific degrees and has a tenedency to lie and distort (his Kids page states that evoulution deals with the Big Bang...it does not).

I met people like Baugh in college (a real engineering school where I got a science degree).  They had delusions of invisibile, angel driven starships hovering over the planet, they had crazy explanations for everything, they were nut cases.

Über, all, if you want bizarre creationist pipe dreams up the wazoo, check out this (courtesy of
pharyngula, also a great source of fascinating evo/bio info, and cathartic trashing of pseudoscientists).

It’s a description of a book by one Jim Pinkoski.  He has the theory that dinosaurs, egged on by fallen angels, attacked Noah’s Ark as the flood began in a no-holds battle to the finish.  The illustrations are scrumptious.

Zilch,

Thanks for sharing that really disturbing link.  It amazes me how they will spread outrageous lies and falsehoods in order to try to get people to believe their nutty fairy tales!

Seriously, if there is a supreme being (and I am not saying there is or isn’t), he/she/it would be so much more awesome, powerful, consistant, and anti-cheesy than these wack-jobs make him/her/it out to be.  In my personal opinion, conservative/dogma-literal religious beliefs make a mockery out of God while science has the ability to show us how magnificant, powerful, and awesome God really is…

...if such a sentient being does actually exist.

The kids page was frighteningly funny.  I laughed until I started to think about some parents actually getting their kids to do those fun activities where they learn how dinosaurs were here just a few thousand years ago.

In fact the whole thing is more than just a little scary.  This is one of the many reasons that I’ve fled what used to be a reasonable country and am now living in exile.  Sadly, it seems that the inmates have well and truly taken over the asylum.  I got news folks (though it won’t be news to anyone who opens their eyes from time to time):  the rest of the world is laughing at the good ole U S of A.  That is, when it’s not condeming it for the pure evil that comes out of various public officials’ mouths.

I work in the Bible belt of Manitoba, so I hear about religion all the damn time.  Being an atheist, I bite my tongue most of the time.  And I try not to dismiss oposite points of view without looking at them first and seeing whether they have merit.

That being said, I can’t stand creationism (or its twin Intelligent Design).  My high school biology teacher was a creationist asshole, and while he didn’t shove that down our throats, he refused to teach evolution! God, what an idiot.

Some of my friends and even a few family members don’t believe in evolution, and I don’t think they’re stupid, just uninformed.  They misunderstand and say things like “I don’t believe we evolved from monkeys”.  Nor do I.  Monkeys are monkeys, and humans are humans.  Humans did not evolve from monkeys, we evolved from a common ancestor!  I’m probably repeating what’s already been said, but it’s an example of how people don’t really understand what they claim not to believe in.

A good quote who’s author I can’t remember:
“Creationists will claim that evolution is just a theory.  But technically so is gravity, and if someone contested that, would things hang in suspended animation pending the verdict?”

:/ Um, have any of you ever even BEEN to the Creation Science Museum? Once you see the stuff their yourself, its pretty amazing. I’ve been PLENTY informed on evolution, and looking at the little evidence that there is, I’d say that it evolution becomes impossible just by its very nature.

Les United States Posted on 06/24/2005 at 04:05 PM

Les pic

The fact that you state there is little evidence for Evolution puts the lie to your claim that you are “PLENTY informed” on the theory itself. Go off and read up then come back and try to have a serious debate. Right now you’re ill-prepared to enter the discussion.
