Considering a Stupid Evil Wiki.

The idea of having a FAQ of sorts here at SEB to point folks to every time someone shows up and starts blabbing the same tired old arguments is something I’ve been kicking around for a long time. I even have a test blog setup to explore how to go about doing it, but it’s not gotten very far in part because every time I sit down to work on it I end up being overwhelmed at the amount of work involved. If only, I think to myself, I could enlist the ridiculously super-intelligent folks who visit SEB regularly in developing the FAQ.

Last night I upgraded our installation of ExpressionEngine to the latest build (1.4.2) and one of the goodies this brought along with it is a brand spanking new Wiki module for developing integrated Wikis. I didn’t have any real plans to make use of this new module until the thought struck me this morning that it might just be the thing to build the SEB FAQ with thanks to its collaborative nature. I’ve not worked with wikis a lot myself so it’ll be a learning experience for me.

So I’m putting the idea forth here to see what you guys think of it. Would you be interested in contributing to building a SEB Wiki? In addition to folks who want to add content I’d be looking for some volunteers to work as administrators as well to help guide what goes in and what doesn’t. Let me know what you think.

Update: Wiki is up and running here. It’s currently set to save 200 revisions to an entry and allow up to 75 changes per author per day. There’s a link to the help file on how to use it on the page and it’s using the default theme at the moment. Uploading of images and attachments isn’t possible just yet as I have to wait until I get home to set up the folder on the server, but I’ll do that later tonight.

Great idea, Les!  I can think of lots of good entries, starting with “The Second Law of Thermodynamics for Fundies”.

Count me in.

How much memory does the wiki module need again? wink

OK, I’ll set it up and see what happens.

Elwed, no idea, but we’ll soon find out.

Well it’s up and running now as it was ridiculously simple to setup. Only uses one file for the template and all editing is done without accessing the control panel at all. I updated this entry with the link to it.
