All I have to do is take a hard look in the mirror.  I want to be a good person, but I usually manage fuck that up at least once a day, so the number of tactical mistakes I’ve made in pursuit of my goal dwarfes those of the nation-state I call home. 

What makes anybody think nation-states are going to be any different when they are composed of people as fallible as you and I?  And what is so hard to grasp about that?

While not happy about them, they should be expected.

Of course, everyone makes tactical errors, consi.  But we can also learn from our mistakes, and hopefully do better next time.  Voting for Bush was a mistake, was it not?

Then the blinding light of memory.
When I first heard Condi say those words I was flabbergasted. Now I know why.
I was hearing them through a soldier’s ears – my ears over 30 years ago.
Pretend for a moment you’re in a war zone (yes, I know it’s impossible but …) and you hear one of your nation’s (the most powerful nation on earth, currently) top dogs, or should that be bitches, say:

Imagine for a moment you’re shit-scared and a couple of y’ mates have already gone home, in bags. Imagine the terror you’d feel. The reality hitting home.

Time to set aside the old partisan bickering and finger-pointing and name-calling that comes from freeing parents to make different choices for their children.  4. They’re innocent, they were doing nothing, and they were summarily plucked out of water.  5.  You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.  6.  I’m going to try to see if I can remember as much to make it sound like I’m smart on the subject.  7.  Home is important.
