Condoleezza Rice: We’re fuck ups, but we did the right thing!

During her visit of Blackburn England Condoleezza Rice engaged in a Q&A with some of the locals and was big enough to admit that our handling of Iraq has been incompetent, but that she still feels taking Saddam out was the Right Thing To Do:

“Yes, I know we have made tactical errors, thousands of them,” she said in answer to a question over whether lessons had been learned since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

“I believe strongly that it was the right strategic decision, that Saddam had been a threat to the international community long enough,” she added.

I think it’s been pretty well established that the only people Saddam was a threat to were the people in his own country and, while that may or may not still be justification for taking him out, it’d be really nice if the Bush Administration would stop trying to play Saddam up as the next Hitler. It just isn’t true and it makes them look like idiots every time they imply it.

“Yes, I know we have made tactical errors, thousands of them.â€?

I hope she was exaggerating. LOL

“Yes, I know we have made tactical errors, thousands of them.

While not happy about them, they should be expected.

All I have to do is take a hard look in the mirror.  I want to be a good person, but I usually manage fuck that up at least once a day, so the number of tactical mistakes I’ve made in pursuit of my goal dwarfes those of the nation-state I call home.

What makes anybody think nation-states are going to be any different when they are composed of people as fallible as you and I?  And what is so hard to grasp about that?

Of course, everyone makes tactical errors, consi.  But we can also learn from our mistakes, and hopefully do better next time.  Voting for Bush was a mistake, was it not?

And what is so hard to grasp about that?

Sorry Consi - I forgot to think. It’s a habit I suffer almost constantly.

The coalition of the willing has been at war for about 1115 days.
In the scheme of things I suppose two or more fuckups a day is hardly worth talking about.
But, according to http://www.antiwar.com/casualties/ the body bag count is 2350 terminated Americans to April 6. 1885 died in combat; the rest by what ... fuckup?
Shit, that’s fuck-all; less than one fuck-up every two days.
Yep, fuck-all.

Estimated wounded anywhere from 18k > 48k.
‘As many as 1 of every 10 soldiers from the war on terror evacuated to the Army’s biggest hospital in Europe was sent there for mental problems.’
I can relate to that. For the real results you have to wait a few years for the madness to fester. downer

Voting for Bush was a mistake, was it not?

The first time or the second time? rolleyes

Sorry for double-dipping but ...

“Yes, I know we have made tactical errors, thousands of them.

I sat back and looked at what I’d written up there but it still didn’t capture what I meant.

Then the blinding light of memory.
When I first heard Condi say those words I was flabbergasted. Now I know why.
I was hearing them through a soldier’s ears – my ears over 30 years ago.
Pretend for a moment you’re in a war zone (yes, I know it’s impossible but …) and you hear one of your nation’s (the most powerful nation on earth, currently) top dogs, or should that be bitches, say:

“Yes, I know we have made tactical errors, thousands of them.

Imagine for a moment you’re shit-scared and a couple of y’ mates have already gone home, in bags. Imagine the terror you’d feel. The reality hitting home.
In-fucking-competents are in charge of my life.

Condi saying:

“Yes, I know we have made tactical errors, thousands of them

was probably one of the most enormous tactical errors ever made.
That statement probably helped ‘the other side’ more than all the suicide bombers put together.
When morale is down, you’re a bit fucked.

Consi, if she was the real Emma Watson I’d be too busy desiring to do incest stuff with her - alas I have nothing to do with the genes of either.  wink

Our current Emma sounds like she just got hold of some views she REALLY wanted to share.
Wow. All that care, energy and youth and, maybe a tad too much red cordial.  smile

It’s a question of who is fucking up.
19 yr old at copy shop screws up twice a day (forgets to cancel dounble sided on next job)- not that important.

Top surgeon screws up once a week, patient dies.

Screw up a pacification and you end up with the US marine who describe the Iraqi people as a ‘cancer’ to which Uncle Sam was the ‘chemotherapy’

Emma, Who are you talking to?  He’s not my president.  I, along with about half of American voters didn’t vote for GW Bush.  I don’t walk on highways, it is too dangerous.

The Gospel According to George

Chapter 1

1.  I’ve got God’s shoulder to cry on. And I cry a lot. I do a lot of crying in this job. I’ll bet I’ve shed more tears than you can count. 2.  I know what I believe. I will continue to articulate what I believe and what I believe. I believe what I believe is right. 3.  I believe that the human being and the fish can coexist peacefully.  4. I don’t particularly like it when people put words in my mouth, either, by the way, unless I say it.  5.  See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda. 6.  I think anybody who doesn’t think I’m smart enough to handle the job is underestimating. 7.  There’s not going to be enough people in the system to take advantage of people like me.  8.  You know, I guess I’m like any other political figure: Everybody wants to be loved.

Chapter 2

1.  I know how hard it is to put food on your family. 2.  If you’ve got a chicken factory, a chicken-plucking factory, or whatever you call them, you know what I’m talking about.  3. Time to set aside the old partisan bickering and finger-pointing and name-calling that comes from freeing parents to make different choices for their children.  4. They’re innocent, they were doing nothing, and they were summarily plucked out of water.  5.  You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.  6.  I’m going to try to see if I can remember as much to make it sound like I’m smart on the subject.  7.  Home is important. It’s important to have a home.

Chapter 3

1.  Soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen, and Coast Guardsmen, thanks for coming, thanks for wearing the uniform.  2.  I’m honored to be here with the eternal general. 3.  And so, General, I want to thank you for your service. And I appreciate the fact that you really snatched defeat out of the jaws of those who are trying to defeat.  4.  Some call this civil war; others call it emergency. I call it pure evil.  5.  My job is a decision-making job, and as a result, I make a lot of decisions.

Chapter 4
1.  I’ve heard Tony’s been called Bush’s poodle.  He’s bigger than that.  2. My relationship with this good man is where I’ve been focused, and that’s where my concentration is.  3.  And I don’t regret any other aspect of it. And so I—we filled a lot of space together.  4.  I’ve been in politics long enough to know that polls just go poof at times. 5.  There’s a lot of blowhards in the political process, you know, a lot of hot-air artists, people who have got something fancy to say.
