CNN’s Nancy Grace is a putz.

How the hell does Nancy Grace keep her job as host of her own program on CNN’s Headline News channel? I’ve not watched CNN in awhile so I was very surprised when I encountered her for the first time the other day and for a couple of moments I thought I had mistakenly turned to FOX News. She manages to avoid the screaming of Bill “Douchebag” O’Reilly and I’ve yet to hear her tell someone to shut up, but that hasn’t stopped her from being just as obnoxious in her own way.

As I type this she’s beating the Terri Schiavo issue into the ground with interviews of people on both sides of the issue and it’s clear that her bias is that Terri was effectively murdered. When she’s not getting the responses she wants she interrupts with loaded questions instead of letting the people finish what they were saying. She’s been letting one of the doctors who examined Terri really have it over the fact that Terri died of dehydration. To his credit the doctor seems to be keeping his sense of humor about it. When a presbyterian minister launched into him and repeatedly demanded that he explain what it’s like to die of dehydration the doctor said, “Well, if you’d let me I’d be happy to explain to you what it’s like.” Nancy’s trying to compare Terri’s situation to the fact that the Pope is currently on a feeding tube and she keeps rehashing the fact that the Schindler siblings were barred from being in the room when Terri died.

Now she’s complaining about how it became a circus at the end. The irony, of course, is she doesn’t seem to realize she’s one of the acts participating in it. Man, I have to turn this off before I end up throwing a brick through the screen. Wow, she’s a major putz. Unbelievable.

Who died and put you in charge?

Oh, about 153,000 people.  Of course that happens every day and that did not put me “in charge”.  Since this is Les’s blog, he obviously is in charge.
I’m not exactly sure what “nazzi” is, merely pointing out the fallacies, inaccuracies, and lack of intelligence behind your posts.  You have yet to actually post anything resembling a real debate.

I have dealt with bigger and better than you, trust me.

Wow, I believe that I just shat in my pants!!! big surprise  Trust you?  Not likely.

I have fun wherever I go, whether it’s Sao Tome or Belize or anywhere in between.

Well, yes, but you’ve also openly stated that you like Nancy Grace, thus revealing that your judgment is seriously suspect.

Ah yes.  We’re soooooo bad.  Unlike you, the paragon of compassion and restraint.  We’re violent bleeding hearts.

Shit.  That’s so bizarre I’m not even sure I’d put it on a T-Shirt.

I am sick to death of the 24/7 “pretty missing white girl” coverage on Faux, CNN, et al.  Cold as it may seem, I don’t know this person, and do not really care.  It is sad for her friends and family, but for me? Meaningless. What kind of person lives someone else’s tragedy vicariously like these people?  Felt the same way about the Lacy Peterson mess.  I just did not give a damn.

... and I would add before someone says; “what about all the attention given to Terry Shaivo?” that it is not a comparable case because it bears on a matter of US law that will affect most of us as we get older.  Serial killers, while horrible, are fortunately quite rare.

The interesting angle to the Aruba story for me is the mass hysteria - it’s actually affecting their tourism income.  Yet another argument for teaching risk analysis to kids.

Not having a TV helps a lot. Modern media tends to over-emphasize the sordid parts of the world anyway. Endless coverage of (for example) child molestation/abduction cases when (at least in our part of the world - Germany) the actual rate of those crimes has fallen decisively in the last couple decades (while public scrutiny of such abuse has heightened).

But if you read the yellow press only, it seems that THEY (insert any despicable group) are simply EVERYWHERE!!!

Excellent point.  My only question is....where does one go to find real, actual NEWS that isn’t the “yellow press” these days?  One seems to be rapidly running out of options.

Nancy Grace “gets the job done”? Hmmm.
How many not so beautiful american girls disappear every day in major american cities? Does Nancy grace cover this.. i think not, doesn’t sell advertising.
How many cold case crimes sit in the files of major american police forces?  does Nancy grace cover this?  I think not, not very interesting doesn’t sell advertising.
Given the lack of hard evience (aparently) at this time, is it likely the suspect(s) would have been held nearly as long in an American jail? Not likely.
Are American media outlets likely doing more harm than good in the investigation of this case… Decide for yourself, I know I have.

Mmmh, we have the excellent ‘Der Spiegel’ in Germany, which, together with its online edition serves to inform me quite well. As for US news sources - while I sometimes think they could get a bit more down to the nitty-gritty (and do less fashion and stuff) - ‘Newsweek’ still holds my respect pretty well (I have a subscription).

I also have a subscription to The New Republic, which has a good online presence, though not concerned with breaking news as such (http://www.tnr.com), more with in-depth pieces.

Finally, though its mostly not really in-depth reporting, yahoo news items bring relatively good and objective info as well.

As for opinion pieces, finally, I admit that I read only NYTimes and sometimes the Wpost.

Though when I need to remind myself that there’s some people with QUITE different opinions around, I only have to head over to the Free Republic ‘board’ (http://www.freerepublic.com). Its a sort of news ticker/discussion forum for the angry right (in the same way that many visitors would describe us here as the angry left).

Nancy Grace is a DISGRACE!  She must be sleeping with someone to get a job at CNN.  I can’t believe that a fine network like this hires an idiot like Nancy Grace… And what’s up with Natalie Holloway disapearance.. WHO CARES! Get off the subject NANCY.. Cover real news if you can.

Jeez! Nancy Grace is a mess of the unintelligent media we have devolved into of late! She is a smug, lady who lunch, chirpy, gossip-style joke on CNN. She does belong on fake-tv i.e. FOX News Channel! I hate her and so does my wife, her conspiratorial “Oh my god how could they style” is draining and overwrought fakery!!

Why in the hell would we want a next J.Lo.  The one we have is skank enough.

Nancy Grace is a pox on journalism and indicative of the absolutely disgraceful level to which the news media has sunk.

Just looking at her makes me want to hurl.

On Nancy’s show tonight, Natalie’s mother again confirmed Natalie had sex with five people the night she went missing.  A few days ago, her father stated that they have confirmed that Natalie was giving “belly shotsâ€? to customers in the bar by having alcohol poured onto her stomach, while she laid on top of the bar, and then the customers would lick it all off.  There, that’s the real Natalie that Nancy Grace continues to ignore.  The lack of the Aruban authorities to take action is something Nancy Grace is partly responsible for. The most important lesson to learn from the Natalie Halloway story is to teach our young people to never, ever, conduct themselves as Natalie did in a foreign country.  Had you been able to eliminate from the equation Natalie’s documented behavior on that night when she left the bar, she would not be missing today.  Eliminate the fact she left a bar with three Aruban males, she the only female. Eliminate the fact she had sex with all three of them in a car, and Natalie would not be missing right now. Eliminate the fact she had sex with even more people on the beach, and Natalie would not be missing right now.  That is the story Nancy Grace fails to convey to females who find themselves behaving in similar ways.  Facts are the facts.  If Grace was truly interested in helping to protect young women, she missed the boat completely on this story.  It appears Grace is only looking to promote her show, and not be a positive messenger for victims or families of victims.

Nancy Grace is “the” reason for me NOT watching CNN-HN in the evening.  Last night I had a moment of weakness, as I wanted to see what was going on with the passenger who was shot by an air marshall at MIA airport.  Man, it’s not just that she interrupts with loaded questions instead of letter people finish what they were saying.  Rather, with people who state opions with which she does not agree, she effectively tells them they are idiots and turns to the next guest.  Rarely does she return to the “idiot” guest for follow-on commentary.

And you now what, voicing opinions are everyone’s right; but Nancy has to understand that group-think driven conclusions (read:  “Nancy’s conclusions") in the mere hours following such an incident and devoid of all pertinent information, do not constitute fact.

Putz?  Certainly.
Cunt?  Would never want to get that close to try.

Tonight, I am tuning into to History TV.

The thing that really gets to me about Nancy Grace is her smugness. I’m looking at her and I kind of feel like I’m looking at a lawyer in a courtroom who is trying to explain away the deeds of her obviously guilty client - but she herself KNOWS that everyone in court KNOWS that her arguments are incredibly weak. So she just kind of smirks and leans in her chair. What a car wreck of a show. Is she stupid .. or just barely smart enough? I can’t decide.
