and the military seems to love him right back. Apparently they don’t keep up with current events that affect their lives. This comes from the Army Times - News:
For example, the White House griped that various pay-and-benefits incentives added to the 2004 defense budget by Congress are wasteful and unnecessary including a modest proposal to double the $6,000 gratuity paid to families of troops who die on active duty. This comes at a time when Americans continue to die in Iraq at a rate of about one a day.
Similarly, the administration announced that on Oct. 1 it wants to roll back recent modest increases in monthly imminent-danger pay (from $225 to $150) and family-separation allowance (from $250 to $100) for troops getting shot at in combat zones.
So hey guys, thanks for spending your days with targets painted on your chests and even dying for this administration and their pals but I guess your lives aren’t even worth a meager $12,000.00. All that taxpayer money going to re-build Iraq? Nope, that is going to Halliburton, Cubic, DynCorp, ITT, and MPRI among others. That’s just the American way, and isn’t that really what we went to war to preserve?
Typical. They’ll bury the troops in praise, but a little extra compensation is out of the question.
“We appreciate what you boys are doing for freedom and democracy over there, but we need to cut back on your imminent-danger and family-separation allowances because, well, we need the money for our buddies doing the rebuilding. Besides, we already said “thank you” on TV forty-billion times. Ain’t that enough?”
