Bush has no shame. Threatens to veto “excessive spending.”

When you read news items like this:

CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush warned Congress on Saturday that he will use his veto power to stop runaway government spending.

“The American people do not want to return to the days of tax-and-spend policies,” Bush said in his radio address.

It’s hard to know whether to laugh or to cry. The man must be doing drugs to make a statement like that. Six years of a rubber stamp congress giving him free reign to run up deficits and once the Democrats are in control he suddenly starts yammering about “tax-and-spend policies”? Someone needs to slap him and tell him that it would’ve helped the budget considerably if he hadn’t run off and started an illegitimate war in the first fucking place.

We’ve not gotten oil from Iraq in quite some time. Even if I accepted that as a legitimate reason, I don’t, he’s a failure on that front as well.

Bush can do more or less whatever he likes because he’s not going to face election again, like Blair, so there’s no coseqences for him, he’s got personal assets, to hell with everyone else. Incompetence is preferable over malice and it may be a clever trick to appear as the lesser of evils, or at least someone behind the scenes may be using bush

Anything spent within an economy eventually makes it’s way back to the government anyway, through tax, the only problem comes from money leaving the country, leaving less to circulate. But in some ways economics is self-adjusting anyway.
