The latest video game to make the jump to the big screen will be Blizzard’s Warcraft series:

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The hugely popular “Warcraft” video games have inspired plans for a live-action feature film set in the epic fantasy universe of orcs, trolls, elves and the undead.

The project is being developed by the creator of the games, Blizzard Entertainment Inc., and producer Legendary Pictures, which acquired the movie rights.

Hopefully Blizzard is taking a big hand in the development process, particularly in the story itself. Not sure about it being live action as I’d much rather see Blizzard’s CGI team that did the stunning intro movie for World of Warcraft get turned loose on a full-length movie project, but the amount of time it would take would probably be more than considerable.

Only problem; Hollywood makes a killing from raping and piliging other peoples works, literary classics and even national tragedies.  At this very moment a team of crack lawyers are working on ways to limit Blizzards involvment to sipping coffee at the back of boardroom production meetings.  With the box office flop of Final Fantasy I highly doubt anyone in Hollywood is going to show enough balls to attempt another major budget CGI release.  Not too mention the film is more of an attempt to cash in from the success of the Lord Of The Rings, rather then paying homage too the game series itself.

Well, Uwe Boll hasn’t been mentioned yet, so there’s some glimmer of hope.

Stealing my intended lines, are you?

With the box office flop of Final Fantasy

Good movie. Iam probably one of the only three people who thought so, though.

I thought Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was a pretty good movie as well, but then I have some minor background into Japanese culture thanks to a misspent youth watching tons of anime. I can understand why it didn’t do well, but I don’t think it’s because it was a bad movie.

Hey, my extent of Jappanese culture was glancing though Akira once in a comic shop. Well, it was slighty more, but not substantially.

So that can’t be it. I simply thought it was quite well-done. Both visually and as far as I can recall, not too shabby story-wise either.

Final Fantasy was okay, but I only watched it once; Japanese-spirit-wise, I found Spirited Away much more original.
