Bill Nye “The Science Guy” pisses off a few True Believers.

Which, to my mind, is a wonderful thing. The alleged offense came during a talk he gave at McLennan Community College:

The Emmy-winning scientist angered a few audience members when he criticized literal interpretation of the biblical verse Genesis 1:16, which reads: “God made two great lights — the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.”

He pointed out that the sun, the “greater light,” is but one of countless stars and that the “lesser light” is the moon, which really is not a light at all, rather a reflector of light.

A number of audience members left the room at that point, visibly angered by what some perceived as irreverence.

“We believe in a God!” exclaimed one woman as she left the room with three young children.

It shows how much better a man Bill Nye is than myself in that he didn’t immediately respond in a scathingly sarcastic manner as I would have. I’ve always liked Bill Nye and this just reaffirms it. Used to watch his show whenever I could despite it being aimed at kids just because it did a pretty good job of educating and entertaining all at once.

This is really a reflection of my level of maturity, but sometimes I wish Bill Nye changed his name to Bill Bob, so then he’d be “Bill Bob, the science knob”.

Don’t blame me: I voted for Kodos.

OK, I literally laughed out loud at that.

Beakman (Beakmans World) was a better scientist than that fruit.

Don’t you see it doesn’t change anything? Kill me, torture me. It doesn’t matter, you’ve already lost…you can never undo what I’ve already accomplished. The dead will still be dead….

I have to admit, Beakman’s world had some damn cool stuff… but lets face it. Everyone remembers the Bill Nye theme song. Doesn’t that count for something? smile

I never cared much for Beakman myself. This is probably another one of those Coke/Pepsi debates, though.

I used to like Bill Nye but then I found out that he’s kind of an asshole. I read numerous accounts about him bascially using his fame to act like an ass around random unsuspecting people. And then I saw it firsthand when he was on a late night talkshow to do some experiments and he was a really grumpy dude, maybe he just had a bad hotel or something I don’t.

No idea who Bill Nye is on this side of the pond, but anyone who walks out on him for stating a fact, them you gotta wonder about…

Beakman sounded too much like Beaker, Professor Honeydews lab assistant on the Muppets and when it didn’t turn out to actually be him I lost interest. Bill had a much more memorable song.
