I think Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was also on the Beeb.  We used to love watching that show...I’ll be there to download those episodes. I thought Monty Python was on ITN (I remember the Thames TV credit coming up at the end of the show).

I also liked the test pattern with the picture of a little girl by a chalk board they showed from about 10 PM until 7 AM (I think they show it briefly in NL’s European Vacation).  We used to get wasted and pretend she moved or she spoke to us!  They only had 3 TV stations in England in the 70s and those new fangled VCR contraptions were not around yet!  God I’m old!!!  I even remember when MTV played music...no really…they did!

Bill you’re right Hitchhikers was on the Beeb, you could always tell because they used all the same err ‘special?’ effects that they used on Dr Who. Apart from Zaphods head which was a technological marvel for it’s time, ohh the nostalgia!!!

Come to think of it, we only had 6 TV stations (the 3 networks, 2 independents, and 1 public broadcasting) when I was growing up and I grew up in Washington, DC!  Now I have 65+ channels and there’s nothing on worth watching.

Yes go on rub it in why don’t you? Of course the main benefit of paying for a telly licence is we have commercial free channels YAY!!! :dance: Which can be a good thing when there’s a nice film on etc. Plus the Beeb has tried to spend the money well, I suppose they must have succeeded at least partly if the interest in their archives is anything to go by…

Wait a minute, does this mean all the episodes of Mystery would be included?  Like all the Poirot, and Midsommer Murders and Hetty Wainthrop and stuff?

Don’t get too excited guys. I’ve been doing some research and the Beeb aren’t likely to release everything they’ve ever made on to the P2P networks for free. In fact because of rights issues, they are likely to restrict the rolling two week TV catch up service (iMP) using DRM. The Creative Archive is the other project, and that will start off as 2-3 minute video clip art of nature/documentary shows. I’m afraid if it’s legal content you want, then DVDs is still your best option!
