Another kid fries himself imitating “Jackass” stunt.

You’d think after the first few idiots burn themselves the rest of the idiots would smarten up a bit, but as this article proves it is unwise to over-estimate the ability of idiots to learn from other’s mistakes.

Fifteen-year-old Kelvin Wu initially told police he was set on fire Friday night while walking from the Issaquah-Skyline football game. Police were told that two men walking past the Issaquah teen flicked cigarette ashes onto his shirt and it caught fire, and that Wu’s friends tried to smother the flames but had to tear off the boy’s shirt.

Police Cmdr. Stan Conrad said officers later determined that along with four friends, Wu soaked his T-shirt in alcohol and lit it as his friends videotaped the stunt. But Wu suffered severe burns to his torso, arms, face, head and ears, police said.

The words “dumb ass” just don’t begin to describe. Unlike the hordes of parents and knee-jerk activists groups that are already penning angry letters to their editors about how horrible the Jackass movie and show are and how the creators of said product should be strung up by their testicles for putting out such crap, I firmly plant the blame for this on the now well-singed idiot kids who continue to set themselves on fire. As someone else said, this is just natural selection in action.

You cannot blame Jackass for any of these things, if Jackass did not exist teens would still do the stupidest things that come to mind, at times i do too...just not lighting myself on fire..idiots! anyways, Jackass has nothing to do with it, having fun and being outgoing and being a teen have everything to do with it, most of us teens are not occupied over summer vacation or on the weekends so we do something that seems fun and yet so stupid, something we can laugh about after wards if we don’t seriously hurt ourselves, and even if we do, we’ll probably do it again, and all of the after school programs are just more reasons to rebel. For example, my brother has started a teen wrestling program and already has plenty of wrestlers, of course i’m only a referee, his friend andy and him were wrestling and taping it, my brother took a steel chair and smacked it on the back of his friend’s head, it was nasty, it was bleeding really bad and we had to put pressure on it, then they lied and said andy hit himself with a door on accident. The point is, teens will be teens, the more friends they have, the better the chances of getting hurt, the more adults try to stop us, the more we rebel and the stupider we act.  raspberry and, oh, its not just the boys as one of you said, i do it too! raspberry too uptight, you guys should worry about your own kids and quit complaining about other teens.

Lindsay, I’m not blaming Jackass for these things. I’m blaming the dumbass kids for being so stupid as to try and recreate the stunts and I blame the parents for not doing a decent enough job of educating their kids in the first place.

Sara, I care because I’d like to think that when you kids get old enough to run the country you’ll have enough fucking brains not to screw it all up.

Don’t get me wrong, you kids have every right in the world to set yourself on fire and jump in front of moving cars or off of buildings into swimming pools if you really want to. Just remember that there is often a price to pay for your stupidity and it’ll affect more than yourself if you’re seriously injured. Your parents will have to find a way to pay for your medical bills and nurse you back to health because you thought it was cool to do some dumbass thing and are now paralyzed or burned over 65% of your body. When you think of how much of an impact that has on your whole fucking family, emotionally as well as financially, then you might realize you’re being pretty fucking selfish by insisting you have a right to be a dumbfuck. But who gives a fuck about your parents, right? Or your friends who might have to live with the trauma of watching you splatter what few brains you’ve got all over the sidewalk. Just so long as they got it all on videotape, right?

Fucking idiots.

Okay, Les you are making this wole thing more complicated than it needs to be, you don’t need all these theories and explanations for jackass related injuries, or for the making of the show. Jackass is a light hearted show intended to make people happy, the people who make the show have all said that they love doing it because it’s fun and thy enjoy making people laugh. That doesn’t mean the kids are complete idiots to copy what they watch, kids see these guys having fun and being “brave” and want to try it out, either from boredom or because they enjoy a rush.
And it doesn’t mean jackass is to blame, Even if they never watched jackass - If it was from boredom they would find some other dumb thing to do and if they enjoy a rush then the chance that they will do something dangerous is even higher. It has nothing to do with the show itself.
And it is not the parents fault either, how many people can honestly say that they never saw a rated R movie when they were under 18, or never watched a show they’re parents didn’t want them to watch. And you can’t keep your kids locked up and under supervision 24 hours a day, especially when they are 15.
When a tradgedy occurs everyone feels comforted if they have someone or something to blame, but sometimes no one is to blame, it’s that simple, things happen, you mourn and you hope it doesn’t happen again but you don’t ruin more lives by assigning blame.

There’s nothing complicated about it. Allow me to repeat, for the umpteenth time, that I am not blaming, nor have I ever blamed, the show itself for these kids getting hurt. You folks need to learn how to read.

That doesn’t mean the kids are complete idiots to copy what they watch, kids see these guys having fun and being “brave” and want to try it out, either from boredom or because they enjoy a rush.

If they aren’t taking the same precautions the people on the show are, and the people on the show are taking precautions such as having paramedics on hand if something goes wrong, then these kids who try to imitate these stunts are being complete idiots. For example, the fire stunt Knoxville performed on television where he set his pants on fire with steaks tied to them was performed with flame retardant pants and people with fire extinguishers in hand nearby. Yet these kids don’t even stop to consider that they pants and shirts they’re wearing are plain old-fashioned cloth and no one ever seems to have a fire extinguisher in case something goes wrong.

The show’s stunt was risky, but they had precautionary measures in place. The kid’s stunt was just fucking stupid. I’m sure he enjoyed the rush of flames up his legs, though.

And it doesn’t mean jackass is to blame, Even if they never watched jackass - If it was from boredom they would find some other dumb thing to do and if they enjoy a rush then the chance that they will do something dangerous is even higher. It has nothing to do with the show itself.

Once again I shall repeat that I am not blaming Jackass for the idiots who try to follow in their footsteps. Kids have tried to imitate stupid stunts they see in all manner of movies and TV shows. Some kids imitating a scene from a Disney movie that shows jocks laying on the double yellow line in the middle of a highway to show how brave they were got run over and killed for trying to pull the same stunt. I don’t blame the movie, I blame the kids for being stupid enough to think what they saw in the movie was worthy of imitating.

And it is not the parents fault either, how many people can honestly say that they never saw a rated R movie when they were under 18, or never watched a show they’re parents didn’t want them to watch. And you can’t keep your kids locked up and under supervision 24 hours a day, especially when they are 15.

Did I say anything about keeping kids locked up or denying them access to shows like Jackass? No, I did not. What I did say was that I blame the parents for not teaching their kids that they should NEVER EVER EVER SET THEMSELVES ON FIRE EVEN IF THEY SEE THE REALLY COOL AND FUNNY PEOPLE ON TV DO IT. TV, kids, is fake. Even the “reality TV shows” are often more staged than reality.

But hey, they’re your kids. Can’t take the time to teach them a little common sense and I suppose this sort of thing is the price you’ll pay. And kids, if you’re going to play with fire and jump out in front of cars then you deserve every injury you get from your actions.

When a tradgedy occurs everyone feels comforted if they have someone or something to blame, but sometimes no one is to blame, it’s that simple, things happen, you mourn and you hope it doesn’t happen again but you don’t ruin more lives by assigning blame.

This ain’t a tragedy. A tragedy is when a kid is walking along the sidewalk minding his own business and gets mowed down by a drunk driver. That’s a fucking tragedy.

Kids setting their own tee-shirts on fire in an attempt to be “cool” like those guys on TV is just plain old-fashioned stupidity. There is blame for that and it lies mainly with the kid. Does it comfort me to blame the kid? No it pisses me off that we’ve got so many apparently stupid children who can’t come up with something better to do than set themselves on fire for amusement.

Hi; just found this blog.  Heh.  I hate idiot parents who try to blame everyone else.  When my kids were little they blamed Beavis and Butthead for a five year old who set his kitchen on fire.  WTF was a five year old doing watching it anyway, and why isn’t that the parents’ fault?  Dumb.

My kids and I laugh our asses off at Jackass, WildBoyz and VivaLaBam but my teenage son knows damned well that trying that stuff at home will likely involve a shitload of pain and serious injury.  (Said injury to be inflicted by dad or me if he pulls any shit like Bam does on his parents!) Sure they do some dumb things at times, but nothing like setting themselves on f’ing fire; how stupid do you have to be for that?  No sympathy at all.  And asshats really need to stop the “Blame Canada” South Park bullshit and just handle their own business for once.

There’s too many people in the world anyway, period. Oh fuckin dear, we lost another moron. People seem to forget that at the end of the day, if you step back and look at the big picture, we are just animals that are slowly detroying this planet. Does that not put petty things like blaming a TV show for the actions of some dick into perspective?

Now, where’s my gallon of milk???

Wow, I’m persuaded by the articulateness of your response alone. For the record, I’m not blaming the movie. I’m blaming the kids for being dumbasses and the parents for not teaching their kids better.

At the age of 18 or 17 I never got into a car drunk so I don’t see your point in that statement. I’m not, and have never been, much of a drinker. Will people do stupid shit? Absolutely. And I will continue to point out just how stupid it is when they do.

I LAUGH EVERY TIME I SEE A NEWS ARTICLE ABOUT A STUPID KID WHO DO SOMETHING STUPID AND BLAME JACKASS. I’VE BEEN DOING THESE SIMILAR STUNTS BEFORE JACKASS OR CKY. WHEN I WAS A KID ME AND MY BROTHER TORE DOWN A WOODEN FENCE BY RIDING INTO IT WITH BIKES AND SHOPPING CARTS.
ME AND MY BROTHER ACTUALLY SMOTHERED OUR CLOTHES IN PAINT THINNER AND SWORD FOUGHT WITH BURNING STICKS, BUT WE HAD A POOL NEXT TO US, THOSE KIDS WERE JUST PLAIN STUPID.

ive made a movie like this. and absolutely nothing went wrong. we thought ahead about each stunt and considered every single possible thing that could go wrong. the most any of us ever got were small bruises which were intended. people just need to be smart about these things if they choose to do them.

What a load of crap.  it annoys the hell out of me when the media or parents assign blame for their kid’s boneheaded behavior on a tv show or a movie.  Simple fact is that if your child engages in any activity that causes him/herself serious injury, it is their own fault for being such idiots.  Sure we all did stupid things when we were young, but unlike the “human torch” in the article my parents taught me a little something called common sense. youn know what i mean, stuff like fire burns, guns kill, jumping from buildings is probably a bad idea, etc..
anyhow, i’m with you les, lets all get a good chuckle out of their stupidity, but the problem is that their stupid actions often result in not only personal injury but the injury of innocent bystanders.  Bravo Les for making a spectacle of their stupidity, and you’re right it isn’t a tragedy, just natural selection at work.

Thank you Les. But some dumbasses just don’t get it. I’m sure someone else will try to trash what you’ve said by misinterpreting the meaning. Please note that it’s probably the “cool” kids that try this, I sure hope that their coolness is enough to stop flames (bad pun), and if I’m wrong and it’s some dumbass nerd kid trying to get attention or a rush, I have but one suggestion: inject a huge amount of heroine, I’m positive it’d be quite the rush.

I do stunts and I was inspired by Jackass. I don’t do it to try to be cool, or for attention. Sure, I get hurt, but that doesn’t stop me doing what I enjoy. Another unfounded, stereotypical thought is that those who imitate Jackass are doing badly at school; I work hard at school, and my desire for stunts doesn’t interfere with my school work. For a lot of people, doing these stunts is more than doing it for a cheap thrill, as a lot of people assume. It involves skilful video shooting, careful editing and is, in general, a great source of creativity. Indeed, many people who do these stunts have been inspired to want to follow such careers as movie directing/editing. Food for thought for those of you who automatically disregard people’s desire to do stunts.
