I think pretty much all politicians on both sides of the aisle are masters of deception and sleight of hand. I think most of what we see on the news is intended as nothing more than a distraction to keep us from seeing how much we’re really being fucked. I think the side in power is simply another distraction. Let’s give them a few years to heat the dems, then we’ll switch to the repubs before they catch on and have them be the bad guys. Back and forth, bread and circuses, just one big show.

Or maybe I’ve just watched a few too many episodes of the X-Files.......

As a staunch conservative, I’m against the flag burning amendment.  I’m also against the gay marriage ban on a national level for federalist reasons.  I think each state should get to decide the issue.  I think the same should be true regarding abortion, but that is another issue altogether.

I will say that I’m increasingly appalled at Bush.  Had he been pushing the gay marriage ban right after the election, the base would have been behind him.  Right now, most conservatives see it as him trying to change the subject from his innumberable failures and are just plain damn discouraged with the system. 

We are offered the following choices: A president that fucks things up nonstop or the other side of the aisle that views us (Heartland conservatives) as idiots because there are a lot of pick up trucks, hunters, religious folk(See PZ Meyers article above), supporters of the military and federalists.  Yee-haw, I’m energized.

If they want a Constitutional Amendment, amend what we thought was a perfectly clear takings clause to reverse the Kelo decision.

That would make you a true conservative, then. I’m simply stunned by the latest federal marraige amendment for a multitude of reasons, one of which is that it is coming from people who are supposedly politically conservative. Let us also recall the Terri Schiavo fiasco, in which Jeb Bush and other alleged conservatives were willing to strike down a state’s law via a federal law when the former conflicted with their religious beliefs. It seems clear that these ultra-conservatives in Congress are willing to let their religiosity undermine one of their most cherished political doctrines (i.e. that of states’ rights).

I disagree, KPG.  Only the politicians in office at any given time are masters- the losers are novices.
