It’s that time again. The American Library Association’s Banned Books Week is once more upon us. You can check out the list of 100 most challenged books for some ideas, but a few good selections would include:
- The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
- Harry Potter (Series) by J.K. Rowling
- The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
- Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
- To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Those are just a few from the list of top 100, but there are scores more books that have been challenged over the years and some that have been outright banned at times. Pick one that looks interesting and celebrate your freedom by reading a banned book today.

They can’t ban ‘Of Mice And Men’ It was the only book my school actually owned. Their library collection will then be down to a few dozen mismatched version of romeo and fucking juliet (No that’s not some sort of pornographic version, just emphasising how much i ended up detesting that story by the time i finished my GCSE’s)
It’s a shame to see ‘catcher in the rye’ so low, im sure it was in the top 10, but since that lists from 1999 im quite obviously wrong.
Im going by the theory that the more a book gets banned, the better it is. Hope this theory proves to be right otherwise im going to have read ‘The New Joy of Gay Sex by Charles Silverstein’ for nothing.
