A Moral Question

OK, normally I don’t care much for the supposedly tough moral questions that folks often email to each other because usually they’re complete crap, but this one my mother forwarded has struck a chord with me so I’m breaking my usual rule and posting it for your consideration:

This test only has one question, but it’s a very important one. By giving an honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally. The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision. Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous.

Please scroll down slowly and give due consideration to each line.

You are in Florida, Miami to be specific. There is chaos all around you caused by a hurricane with severe flooding. This is a flood of biblical proportions. You are a photojournalist working for a major newspaper, and you’re caught in the middle of this epic disaster. The situation is nearly hopeless. You’re trying to shoot career making photos. There are houses and people swirling around you, some disappearing under the water. Nature is unleashing all of its destructive fury.

Suddenly you see a man floundering in the water. He is fighting for his life, trying not to be taken down with the debris. You move closer… somehow the man looks familiar. You suddenly realize who it is. It’s George W. Bush!

At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take him under… forever. You have two options - you can save the life of G.W. Bush or you can shoot a dramatic Pulitzer Prize winning photo, documenting the death of one of the world’s most powerful men.

So here’s the question, and please give an honest answer:

Would you select high contrast color film, or would you go with the classic simplicity of black and white?

well, being that I can’t swim, I’d opt not to save him and instead focus on trying to save people where it isn’t almost certainly going to kill me. But if I could swim, yeah, I’d save his ass. Then I’d point out personally that a man can be utterly godless and still have compassion for the fellow man.

One sure and primary and fundamental fact is the joint existence of a subject and of its world. The one does not exist without the other. I acquire no understanding of myself except as I take account of objects, of the surroundings. I do not think unless I think of things — and there I find myself. - Bruce Lee

I’d save him because you can bet they’d bring up treason charges if I took a picture of him dying!

(that was a joke, I’d save him regardless)

Nice shot, Brock! Did you catch that one yourself?

Nope, Adam, I got it from Private Eye, a British site.

The truth is out there…

But it says:

There are houses and people swirling around you, some disappearing under the water. Nature is unleashing all of its destructive fury.

I was busy elsewhere. I swear it.

Great pic, Brock!

i would save him from the floods, and then i would shoot him in the face and toss him back in, then i would choose the higher uality film and take the pic. or better yet i would pull him out of the water and make a video of me torturing him and then cutting off his head.
