In a move that is sure to fuel late-night talk show host’s monologues for weeks to come, the state of Alabama has allowed a 14-year-old boy to marry a 42-year-old woman. Interestingly enough this is entirely legal under Alabama law.

“It is unusual but it’s nobody’s business,” Daina said during a brief telephone interview. “It’s nobody’s business who I fell in love with.”

She said she feared that the information, once known, would jeopardize her job and possibly the custody arrangement of her children.

“We happen to be on the proper side of the law,” said I.V.’s father. “It’s in the laws of five states. Why is it so wrong?”

It seems that at least two other states, Kansas and Texas, allow 14-year-olds to marry with just parental consent. The boy’s father feels his son is mature enough to make such a decision even at his young age and offers the following words of wisdom when asked if he thinks the marriage will last:

O’Rourke said he believes that Daina and I.V.’s relationship will last.

If not, “Divorce is easy,” he said. “If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work.”

I would like to suggest a new slogan for Alabama license plates: It ain’t pedophilia if he/she is your spouse!

Yeah...good ‘ole ‘Bama. I love this state, lmfao. This is pretty creepy, though i cant say its surprising. I think our state constitution still has provisions for when an automobile meets a horse on the highway. You still have to disassemble the auto to the point that the horse is no longer frightened and is willing to continue. Now, is anyone else NOT surprised that our state still manages to be number 49 in literacy? Or marries off 14 year old boys to pedophiles?

Well for those who agree with this you stay away from my children. If a 42 year old man marries a 14 year old girl it’s pedophillia but if a 42 year old woman marries a 14 year old boy it’s love! The United States is a country with a double standard and is hypocritical. You who support this behavior tell me at what point do you consider it pedophillia, 1,2,8,10,11,12,13? What age is pedophillia? So is a 14 year old capable of knowing whats best for them? If 14 then why not 13,12,11,or 10. Where do we draw the line? Don’t give me the crap that it depends on the maturity. The law has no way to measure maturity. So where do we draw the line? What has history taught us? Yes 14 year old children did marry in history but it was not the norm? 16-20 seems to be the historical precedent but I ask you where do we draw that line?

By the way there is no such thing as a soul mate? There are just mates who have mutual interest or develop mutual interest based on a good relationships. Happiness is relative, it’s what you make it. I ask again what age is it pedophillia? It seems to be different depending on wheather your a man or a woman. A man would be crucified if he married a 14 year old girl. Wow I can’t believe a 43 year old woman actually confessed to being attracted to a 15 year old boy on this web site! Let me ask this 43 year old woman one question! What would you say, assuming you have a daughter, if your 15 year old daughter was attracted to a 43 year old man? What would you say if that 43 year old man expressed mutual interest in your 15 year old daughter? I bet you reaction would be totally different.
